James, I carry in my heart all the wonderful times we had together that began 39 years ago. You live on in the stories we share, but especially in the faces and voices of our three amazing sons. You are always in our hearts and forever loved and missed. Marg, Liam, Brendan(Ashley), and Neil(Krysalynne)

I learned this sad news quite late with a great shock. I was Jim's MSc student at TRLabs. Then I also had a chance to worked with him on a project in 2008 and 2009. He was a very intelligent person who was very much liked by both students and colleagues.
My deepest condolences to his family.

His sudden death came as shocking news to me. When I migrated to Canada in 1998, I had this great opportunity to work under him during my graduate studies at U of A/TRLabs. He was such a wonderful, caring, and intelligent person. I met and had a chat with him last in Ottawa in 2007 in a conference. He will be remembered and missed for many years to come. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad news; my condolences to the family. Dr. McMullin was one of the favourite EE professors for myself and my classmates - he combined a great sense of humour with passion and understanding and, this compelled us all to participate and ultimately become better students.

I first met Jim in 1991 when I joined TRLabs. I had the great pleasure of working closely with him, as well as counting him as a friend. He was an incredibly smart guy with a great sense of humor and an easy-going attitude that made him universally liked by everyone around him.
My deepest sympathies to Pat, Liam, Brendan, Neil and all of Jim's family - he will be missed by a great many people.

Jim was the Graduate supervisor for my PhD between 1993 and 1997. It was his personal touch and his ability to connect with people that made my choice for leaving India and coming to Canada to work under him. He would make light of any situation and transfer his infectious smile and enthusiasum to all those around him. His zest for life changed my own outlook and perspective in a significant way. I wish my sincere condolences to his children Liam, Neil and Brendan and the rest of his family. We shall miss this wonderful human being.

I first met Dr. McMullin when he joined the UA faculty. He taught 489 that year and I particularly remember him making the subject matter relevant through examples of his industry experience. I worked with Jim many years later on the board of what was then ECAT and got reaquainted and since then stayed in touch. Jim made a lasting impression with me and he will be missed. Please accept my deepest sympathies from me and my family to yours. God bless.

Dear Pat and Family,
I had the privilege of knowing Jim of blessed memory as a prof in the early 90s and as a mentor in grad school and again during the occasional visit to the University. His easy going demeanor and infectious laugh was alway reassuring. He will be missed by all who knew him. May you only know of happiness from today onward with the knowledge that Jim will always be with you.

Sending my sincere condolences to the family. You have been lucky to be around such a cheerful and pleasant character: keep him in good memories. Jim had been a collegue to Georg Cormack, my supervisor at U of A / ATRC during 1984 to 1989. Thus I had the privilege to many delightful technical and non technical discussions with Jim, topped with the odd game of softball and golf. It has been great to meet Jim in September 2009 again, during a short visit to Edmonton. Dear family, my thoughts are with you

Dear Pat and Family,
You have my deepest sympathies for your loss. I hope you are able to take even the smallest comfort in knowing that Jim had a profound impact on many people. I was fortunate enough to learn from Jim, compete against him in rugby, and spend many hours at the rink with him. He was a very competent Scientist and Engineer, who had the unique temperament to nurture fledgling students. He competed for the sake of a good game with friends, and was simply a great guy to have around. Jim will be sincerely missed by those that had the privilege to know him.

What we have are the GOOD YEARS SPENT TOGETHER.

The news of Dr. McMullin's death was shocking and surprising for me and Pooja, here in India. I did my grad studies under his supervision (2001-2005), and I owe him immensely for not only providing best years of my life in Edmonton but also being a mentor, advisor and guide all along. Dr. McMullin had so much respect and concern to my Indian roots, family tie-ups that he used to make sure that I can have vegetarian food at conferences, saying “Happy Diwali” and asking about my parents now-and-then. I learnt numerous things from him and frankly they will remain an asset for my throughout. I feel this is a personal loss, and share my deep condolences to Dr. McMullin's sons, and Patty. Dr. McMullin, you have been a real guru and will always remain in my heart.

Patricia, Liam, Brendan, and Neil,
We were so very sad to hear of Jim's passing. Debbie and I have enjoyed running with Jim since he joined the Edmonton Hash House Harriers in 1999. He was a good friend to all and contributed very much to the fun and social side of our running group. As we are overseas on assignment, we will not be able to be there to show our respect on Tuesday, so please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will raise a glass to toast his memory.

Laura and I are deeply sadden by Jim's death. He was a great guy and we so enjoyed battling him over the poker table with our regulator Capital Hill poker friends. I loved Jim's competitiveness and aggressive approach to the game. Something tells me those were traits that manifested in other aspects of his life. And they were always accompanied by a fun and good natured spirit. We will miss him. Pat, out hearts go out to you. You are in our prayers. God Bless,

Our deepest condolences to the family. Jim was my supervisor for my graduate work in 1986 at the University of Alberta. We stayed in touch throughout the years and our career paths crossed again in the past few years during our time in Edmonton. I will always remember Jim as a person who was always smiling, cheerful and could derive anything from scratch – all he needed was a piece of paper and a pen.

Jim and I worked together on the New Faculty Forums in 1996-99 and I treasured his smile, his twinkling blue eyes, his well used laugh lines, his open enjoyment of his family, and his firm commentary, reserved for when the discussions occasionally became a bit too passionate for our own good. My love and sympathy goes out to all those who are left with wonderful times and collaborations cut short, most especially his family and close friends. Jim surely had a lot of life and love left to give to the world.
