MADISON — Mr. James "J.D." Stovall, 72, of 2881 US Hwy 311, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 13, at the Chapel of Ray Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Sisk and Reverend Francis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Knollhurst Cemetery.
Mr. Stovall was born on March 28, 1935, in Stokes County, the son of Gracie Ellis Stovall of Sandy Ridge and the late Morris "Boo" Stovall. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had retired from Southern Steel and Wire of Madison. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nina "Jean" Priddy Stovall; sister, Doris Hill; and brothers, Donnell Stovall and Winford Stovall.
He is survived by his children, Jenny McCollum and husband, Brad of Pleasant Garden, Teresa Flynt and husband, Gary of Mayodan, Melissa Shaffer of Stokes County, Jeff Stovall and Bradley Stovall both of Madison; sister, Celia Williams; brothers, Aubrey Stovall, Odene Stovall, and Mike Stovall all of Sandy Ridge; seven grandchildren, with two being very special to him, Garrett and Peyton McCollum; three great grandchildren; special friends and neighbors, Larry Biggs and family; and a special cousin, Betty Jo Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday, January 12, at the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his nurses, Beth Starling and Valerie Hairston.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
