Janet Hunt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 11 to Apr. 12, 2023.
Janet Elaine Hunt Naples - Janet Elaine Hunt (nee Woodlock) died peacefully on April 6, 2023 in Naples, FL. She was 79.

Mrs. Hunt was born on July 26, 1943 in Newton, MA to her parents, James William Woodlock and Dorothy Woodlock. She is a graduate of Newton High School and Framingham State College, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She worked as an elementary school teacher before marrying Robert A. Hunt and starting a family. Janet and Bob moved to Watertown, MA in 1967 where they raised their sons Brian and Kevin, and continued to reside for over 54 years, before relocating to Naples, FL in 2021. Janet dedicated herself to raising her children full-time, using her skills as a teacher to prepare them well for all the education to come. Once they entered elementary school, Janet returned to the classroom as a very popular substitute teacher in the Watertown school system and volunteered in the school library. When her boys were in Junior High School, Janet returned to full time work in education as a valued administrator at Bentley University in Waltham, MA. During her 30 plus years at Bentley, she thrived serving students and faculty alike in key roles, including the Registrar for the Graduate School of Business, and eventually the Registrar for the entire University.

Janet's favorite times were spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved the holidays when they were all gathered in her home. She excelled at gift giving, spending months thinking and researching to find the perfect birthday or Christmas gift. Some of her fondest memories were of Summers spent on Cape Cod with family cooking out, lounging on the beach, sipping cocktails overlooking the water or popping into shops on Main Street in Hyannis. With no girls of her own, Janet treated her daughters-in-law, Tami and Elizabeth, as if they were her own. Among her greatest joys in life were her beloved grandchildren, Alistair and Isabel. She never tired of telling stories about her grandson's funny quips or sharing pictures of her granddaughter's latest dance performance.

A lifelong learner who loved people, Janet delighted in reminiscing about her trips abroad with family and friends. She enjoyed visiting her son Kevin as he lived in different cities around the country and spent many weekends with Brian and Tami at their house "down the Cape." She was extremely social and could make friends anywhere. Janet was an avid reader throughout her life and an active member of many book clubs. She joined a women's golf group when she and her husband Bob began wintering in Naples and played weekly for many years.

Janet is survived by her husband Robert A. Hunt, her sons Kevin M. Hunt (Elizabeth) and Brian D. Hunt (Tami); her older brother James William Woodlock Jr. and younger sister Dorothy Woodlock; her grandson Alistair J. Hunt and her granddaughter Isabel R. Hunt.

A celebration of her life will be held this Summer in the Boston area, with details announced at a later date.

My belated condolences to the Hunt family. I recently learned oh Janet's passing in the Bentley alumni magazine. I worked with Janet in the graduate school admissions office at Bentley. She was kind, funny and a delight to work with. She loved her family so much, and often recalled happy moments with you. My deepest sympathies to the Hunt family and all that loved her.

Janet was a wonderful boss. I worked for her in the 1980s. I remember my first staff meeting, it was in September, and the first topic on the agenda was, "What will we do for our office Christmas party?" I knew I was going to like working with her! Kevin, Brian, Bob, Dorothy and James, my condolences on your loss and my sympathies to you and your loved ones. May Janet rest in peace and may your fond memories sustain you as you grieve.
