May 2, 1947 - June 29, 2914
Janet left us on June 29, 2014 at the age of 67, after a mercifully brief battle with an aggressive brain tumor. She was surrounded by her daughter Colleen, grandsons Zach and Connor, and her sister Kathy. Janet was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on May 2, 1947 to Bruce Millar Williams and Rosemary (McQuade) Williams, and raised in Garland, Texas. (Think "Friday Night Lights" and "King of the Hill.") She graduated from Edgewater College in Madison, Wisconsin, where she was student body president. In 1980, she moved to the Bay Area, a place she came to love. Jan retired in 2010 as a Customer Services Supervisor with the San Francisco Chronicle. She thoroughly enjoyed retirement, indulging her love of travel by taking her grandsons Zach and Connor on a cross-country road trip, and travelling to Spain to see Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. She loved to cook, host holiday dinners, watch cooking shows, visit San Francisco art museums, attend the entire season of the San Francisco Ballet, root for the A's, and walk Malcolm, her rescue dog (truly a match made in heaven). Janet leaves behind – to miss her sarcastic sense of humor, her easy laugh, and her great generosity – daughters Colleen Maltby and her sons Zach and Connor, and Gretchen Miller (Geoff Pincus) and sons Ripkin and Hobbs; brothers Mike (Dina and kids Kyle, Chelsea, Marcus and Lauren) and David Williams, and sister Kathy McQuade and her daughter Josie, and well as the Texas cousins (Sue, Pam, Patty and David) and Uncle Davey. Friends too numerous to mention, including the wonderful community of Tara Hills. A special debt of gratitude is owed to Colleen, who gave everything she had to taking caring of her Mom in the last months of her life.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I supervised at the Chronicle with Janet and have thought of her often since that time. She spoke often of her love for her family and I know she will be missed. May God give you all Janet's strength to live on in her honor.
