Jeanie Marks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 15, 2011.
JEANIE RODGER WILSON MARKS

A Woman of Valor, well loved and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Gourmet Cook, Jeanie Marks passed away Wednesday, 13 April 2011 at the age of 85 in Salt Lake City. Jeanie was born in Dearborn, Michigan Dec. 2, 1925 to John and Nellie Wilson, both natives of Scotland. A graduate of Fordson H.S., Jeanie served during wartime as Legal Secretary for Chief Counsel, Fergerson Tractors. Later worked on the legal staff of Dallas District Attorney. Married John David Marks of Dallas, December 27, 1950. They resided in Ann Arbor, Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, and Salt Lake City. Jeanie was active as leader in Bluebirds, and Girl Scouts. She also served in the Salt Lake PTA, League of Women Voters, and Council of Jewish Women. She worked as principal of mArks Industries and tax preparer for H&R Block. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Joseph B. Simpson, daughter Judith Ellen Wiley, grandson Louis Beach. Survived by Husband and children: Jennifer Beach, Minneapolis; John David, Jr., [Pam Brady], Concord, CA; Jocelyn Jean Gehrke [Michael]. Arlington, VA; son-in-law Percy Wiley, Klamath Falls, Oregon; grandchildren Denise Marks Tracy [Michael], David and Robert Marks, Lita Beach, Nathan and Kathryn Paige Gehrke, two great-grandchildren. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great satisfaction to her. Jeanie loved the outdoors, her flowers and vegetable garden, her twice daily walks with her dogs, camping, backpacking, and hiking in the mountains with her family. The beauty of the wildflowers was of special importance to her. Riding the ski lift terrified her, but she did say that if she could ski with Alf [Alf Engen] every day there would be no problem. Loved traveling; with her husband visiting all 7 continents, especially including Antarctica and visiting Mt. Everest. Jeanie had that rare ability of befriending and liking all she met. She will be missed sorely. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, April 18, 2011 at Evans and Early Funeral Home, 574 E 100 S, Salt Lake City. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Donations in Jeanie's memory may be made to Congregation Kol Ami (conkolami.org), the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or to a charity of one's choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.evans-earlymortuary.com.

John, I'm sad to not see you two out walking past our house. I'll especially miss my talks with Jeannie out in our front yards, discussing receipes, literature, politics and religion. She was a good friend to me.

Shane and I know that you have so many fond memories of your long love affair with Jeannie and hope they will give you comfort.

Sincerely, Karen Elliott

I was surprised and deeply saddened to hear of Jeanie's passing. She was such a lovely and loving woman and was a source of strength and positivity to me after my parents' passing. Her photo album is a tribute to a wonderful life well-spent with loving friends and family. She will be missed.

To John and Family,

Our sincere condolences on Jeanie's passing.

We know that you will miss her terribly and her absence will leave such a gap in your large and close family.

We were privileged to meet Jeanie and John in Tibet and be with them both at Mt Everest and so know that they both enjoyed it so much.

It has been our good fortune to have been able to keep in touch since that special time.

We are thinking of you.

I have kept in touch with Jennifer over the years since we've been best friends since grade school. It is with much sadness that I write you today after seeing Mrs. Marks in the SL Tribune. She was a very nice lady and will be missed by all. Please accept my condolences
