So sorry to learn if his passing, the third Dashiell man this year. Three great ones have fallen. I enjoyed seeing him at Ranny's funeral. Such a handsome man. The obituary was a lovely tribute of a very interesting life.

To first hear he had terminal cancer was a shock, since he looked and sounded great at a recent family gathering. I spoke to him for awhile on that occasion, and he mentioned his "girlfriend" with a smile.
I remember asking him about the multi-colored small bar pin on his lapel, and Jack said it was representative of his military service. I know he was proud to serve.
He was a great dad, and a superbly talented artist, executing watercolor landscapes, but it was for his hand-carved and painted duck decoys that he gained major renown. He was in the top tier. Ray and I saw an exhibit of about two dozen of Jack's works once (at the Isle of Wight Museum), and the detail was breathtaking; every feather looked real.
Getting to age 90 is pretty good, but I wished he could have stayed longer.
Love, - Mary Rouse Root (daughter of William Dashiell Rouse, granddaughter of Pauline Dashiell)
