John L. Hensley

John L. Hensley, 71, of East Windsor went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, surrounded by his family at his home.

Born in Princeton, West Virginia on March 5, 1947, son of the late Floyd S. Hensley and Grace (Darnell) Hensley, he was raised in West Virginia and had lived in East Windsor for over 40 years.

In addition, to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Hensley; and a sister, Patricia Canterbury. He leaves his wife, Hilde Hensley; a daughter Jennifer McGuire and her husband, Malcolm; a son Christopher Hensley and his wife, Nancy; two brothers, Steve Hensley and his wife, Cleda, and Eddie Hensley and his wife, Loren; two sisters, Mary Laffrey and her husband, John, and Pina Thomason and her husband, Stuart; a brother-in-law, James Canterbury; six grandchildren, Alex, Jeremy, Jon, Adam, Alyssa, and Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Zachary.

John served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the AmVets and the Smalley Brothers, VFW Post 6123 in Windsor Locks, where he served as a Past Commander and also held several other positions. John worked a combined 33 years at SweetLife Foods and SuperValu and later took a position at Stanadyne Corporation as an engineering technician where he worked for eight years until his retirement. He belonged to the Mawaga Sporting Club and loved hunting and fishing in his spare time. He was very handy and always stayed busy with numerous projects.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church, 180 Park Ave., Windsor. Burial will be private.
