John J. Holland

A graveside service for John J. Holland will be held at 11:15 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015, at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, officiated by the Rev. Lester Horntvedt. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 92. A one-hour visitation is scheduled beginning at 10 a.m. Friday in the River Park Chapel of Macken Funeral Home, followed by a procession to the cemetery.

Mr. Holland, 81, of Rochester, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at Saint Marys Hospital.

He was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Oronoco, to John and Clara (Hanson) Holland. He served in the U.S. Army in the mid-1950s. On July 18, 1964, he married Barbara Hofschulte in Rochester and she survives.

John worked in construction for a number of years and then later as a security guard for Mayo Clinic for more than 20 years until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Holland Hoven, and two half-brothers, Bob and Harvey Knutson.
