John Zara Norris III

John Z. Norris, III, died peacefully in his home and surrounded by family on February 22, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 85 years old. From Greenville, TX, John was born on December 02, 1937, and was a Baton Rouge resident for 50 years. John graduated Mercedes High and earned his BBS from Pan American College in Edinburg. John opened his first Baton Rouge business, Norris Insurance Agency, in 1975, and later opened a property-casualty insurance consulting firm that became the largest school board property-liability consulting firm in Louisiana before he sold it a few years ago. A gregarious man with a funny story always at hand, John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine May Saucier Norris, and his two children, Amanda "Mandi" Kaye Norris of Houston and James "Michael" Norris of Mandeville. John was preceded in death by his mother, Roxene Morris, his stepfather, Pluto Morris, and his beloved brother, James "Jim" Norris. John leaves behind two grandsons, Samuel Norris Ellis and James Louis Ellis, who have enjoyed many of John's stories about life and Louisiana. John also leaves behind two much admired sons-in-law, William Ellis (Houston) and Bruce Steinberg (Mandeville). Funeral Services will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 4, 2023, preceded by a short visitation beginning at 9:30 am.
