Johnny and I worked together with the Jackson 5 and then the Jacksons in the mid to late 70's. I was then the production manager for the band and Johnny and I became pretty good friends.( to say the least) How could you not with Johnnys' personality!
One of my duties with the group at that time was to pick up Johnny for rehearsals @ the Jackson's house in Encino . We would always have a good time .. while in town or on the road. As many of you know , Johnny was THE life of any party... Anytime , anywhere, Johnny was ready ... Johnny seemed to enjoy himself and made others feel comfortable as well.
As I haven't seen or heard fron J.J in years, I still would inquire about him now and again.
Johnny nick-named me .. " blind eddie-ward , the proofreader"
Don't know why , but I still pull that one out from time to time (30 years alter)
So , here's to Johnny and all those that he touched with that instant smile, love for life and unbelievable ability to play the drums...( really loudly, I might add!)
God Bless you, Johnny, and all those that you touched in your life.. peace be with YOU, your family and all your friends.. love always ..

Johnny was a great inspiration to me and my family when we were growing up in the early 1970s. As an integral member of the Jackson 5, Johnny's colorful and electric style of playing, inspired me and my brothers to strive for perfection in our musicianship and in our lives. Johnny's standard and example of perfection, help keep me and my brothers Chris, Ray and Edward, off the street, and into doing something positive. Without question, I would not be alive today if not for the example and hard work of Johnny and the Jackson 5. May the Lord bless and be with Johnny and the Jackson family always.

To the Jackson family I offer my deepest sympathy. My brother & I met Johnny after a J5 concert in Chicago. We took a picture with him. We were more excited about meeting him than anyone else in the group. Johnny was the reason my brother started playing drums. He even pattern his sytle & looks after him. (wide brim hats etc)My brother may have pictures of Johnny with the group in concert in his achives. I know he'll be happy to share them with the family at N/C. Let me know & I'll go through his slides with him. I still have the J5 live cd in my car. What's wierd about that I was playing it several months ago & was saying to myself that Johnny was GREAT on drums. Then I started wondering whatever happened to him. I was saddened to hear the news. May God bless you all. Love Mr. C Butler

Ms. Jackie......
I met your brother through a friend. Johnny had great energy. Not only was he a show-stopping, dynamic, natural drummer, He had a beautiful spirit, something that obviously runs in the family. Like you, Johnny too, always greeted me with a warm spirit. I extend my condolescences and ask God, our Creator, to substain you and your family throughout this time. Johnny will be missed here on earth, but my mother once told me, "God likes nice things too." Johnny is now among the best! Some may imitate but no one will ever duplicate. Play on Johnny!

Johnny, I will miss sitting out on your front porch on those warm, summer nights and listening to your funny stories. Remember the summer night you, me and "E" took that long walk and talked about music and life? You talked about the pot roast I cooked you for two weeks. Who am I going to deliver pot roast to now? My dear Johnny, looking at the photos of you and the Jackson Five- it's hard to believe you are the same person I used to come and joke around with, and listen to playing drums in the living room. You didn't have a uppity bone in your body, and would give your friends the shirt off of your back. I loved the way you didn't take any "mess" off of anyone. It was a true pleasure working with you. I'm looking forward to you continuing your stories where you left off, so save a seat for me. I know you are drummin' for the Angels now- "Johnny Be Good"!

To Jackie, Candy, and the entire Jackson Family:
I was deeply saddened and hurt to learn of Johnny's death. Johnny and I shared many laughs over the years as well as the same birth month. He would always make it a point to call me to say "Happy Birthday, Cherylie Ann,"and we would sing it to each other. I'll miss his wit, kindness, and most of all his laughter which was quite contageous. He loved people. Johnny was the most talented drummer I have known in my lifetime and it was an honor to have known such a talent.
Remember the good times with Johnny and know that he has been called home to glory.

St. John 14 says Let not your heart be troubled ye believe in God believe also in me. The Psalmist sings weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. We must remember that at this hour that there is hope in Jesus. For he said that he will never leave us alone, no never alone. For the dead this is a time to rest, for the living this is a time to remeber,to reflect, to revive, to redeem, to rebuild and move on. My condolescents to the family of Johnny Jackson A.K.A.Johnny J. I have known Johnny for some years, he taught my nephew how to play the drums also he has played for our church on many occassions, I would see him riding his bike down my street and holler at him and ask him when was he coming to visit our church again and he would say I'm coming this Sunday and Sunday will pass and no Johnny , then I would see him again and he would say I'll see you Sunday, he was always a joy to talk to and I will always miss him and his beats. God has you know play those drums for him Rest in Peace Johnny J. Rest On
