Jorge knew more about the fundamentals of basketball then anyone I know. He was a fierce competitor and hated to lose
I was fortunate to have Mr O as a shop teacher, to this day I am showing my Children and employees things he taught me. We were all blessed to have him in our lives. If I have one regret when it comes to him, it would be I did not get the chance to see him again and tell him how much he meant to all of us

Dear Mrs. Ortegon:

I was so sorry to learn that Mr. Ortegon had passed away. He was my drafting teacher at Paw Paw High School during the 1968-69 academic year. I loved his class; he was a great teacher. He made learning so much fun. I was one of only two girls in the class. Often, when I finished a drawing, he would look over my shoulder and say, "Not bad for a female." Later, in the 1990s, I ran into him at the Grape and Wine Festival in Paw Paw, and he told me that he still had all of my drawings from high school! What a compliment!

I don't know if you remember, but when your daughter Jory was born, I made a small statuette of a stork out of origami and drafting tools and brought it over to your house on M-43.

I will always remember Mr. Ortegon as one of my very favorite teachers in high school. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Sincerely,

Jeanette Rybinsky

I was a little shocked & very saddened to hear of his passing. I have nothing but good memories of him. I wish his family the best as I know he will be missed. Paula, Jori, Jamie, and Josh,

I feel so blessed to have known Jorge over the years. I consider him one of my closest teaching colleagues in my career--both a mentor and close friend with whom I shared many heartfelt conversations. Most of these took place on 3-mile runs together. We all called him "Timex" because he was so unbelievably consistent!

I also had many spiritual conversations with him and loved to share with him as a brother in Christ. These talks meant so much to me!

I always appreciated his wisdom and sense of humor. He even taught me how to drive a stick shift--even though for years thereafter he took the liberty to share my driving struggles with his classes!

I am a better person today because of your husband/father. I have missed him (and all of you) since he moved away, but know that one day we will be united again with our Lord and Savior. Jorge, you have finished the race and kept the faith!

In Christ's love,
Craig, Julie, Janelle Rupp
