Dr G. was a truly compassionate soul who helped many people at Riverbend and beyond. He could remember someone he had seen 25 yrs ago and remember details about each one. Professionals in mental health could all learn many great lessons from this man. Everyone could learn from this wonderful man. He will be missed and remembered by many.

My grandfather (Grandaddy) was a brilliant man with a humble spirit. He never cared for the spotlight, but accepted praise graciously. In recent years, I talked with him one on one about anything. With wisdom, he listened patiently and never judged or criticized me. My Grandfather was truly a healer and I do not think he realized his gift. He had incredible insight and compassion for people who struggled in life with emotional and mental difficulties. Their fight became his fight. Their storms became his storms. My Grandfather knew that emotional and mental struggles did not define a person and did not make them "weak." He knew how to take a person through the healing process. What is perceived as a "weakness" was a strength to him. My Grandfather was an "old school" doctor who kept learning new innovations in the mental health field. As the old clique goes, "He was truly a man before his time" in regards to attitudes about mental and emotional health. In recent years, every time I would visit, I would say, "Grandaddy, you sure look handsome." He would say, "Amanda, I am too old to look handsome." My grandfather WAS handsome. Inside and out. I know he will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. G for three wonderful years. When I first started working at Riverbend he took me under his wing and taught me so much. Dr. G was the kindest, sweetest man and he became a great friend to me. Dr. G has helped so many people over the many years he was at Riverbend. I will miss Dr. G very much. I LOVE YOU DR. G!!!!

I feel honored to have cared for such a wonderful person. The love and compassion shown to him from his daughters was a true testimony to his life and as a father. What peace his family must have knowing he is in the presence of his Lord and Savior. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
