Mr. Joseph "Joe" Edward Whitley Jr., age 58 of 581 Sandringham Place,passed away Monday May 19, 2008 at Alleghany County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Center United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Hagler and Rev. Don Newman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home and will be at the home the remaining time.
A burial will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m., at Buckhorn United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rock Ridge (Wilson), NC. The family will receive friends after the graveside service.
Joe was born October 21, 1949 in Wilson County, son of Ruby Whitley Parker of Wilson and the late Joseph Edward Whitley. He attended Bob Jones University and was in the National Guard from 1969 to 1975. He worked in NASCAR for 25 years and currently was the manager for Pro Cal Professional Decals.
He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, was a past president of PPRC and was on the board of the Dick Jones Pediatric Nursing Scholarship committee at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Long Whitley; daughter, Taylor Whitley and son, Joseph (Jed) Edward Whitley, III, both of the home; sisters, Carol Whitley Cox and husband, Larry, Dianne Whitley Barnes and Beth Whitley Glover and husband, David, all of Wilson; mother- in-law, Audrey Long White of Rockingham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beverly Whitley Memorial Fund c/o Suntrust Bank, 818 Church Street North, Concord, NC 28025.

Beverly, Taylor and Jed - I love you all and will truly miss Joe. You are special "family" to me. I am heartbroken about the pain of such a loss. I know Joe was so proud of you all and was such a good man. I pray for peace and comfort for you during this time.

I was shocked to hear about Joe's death, he was truely a man of honor and integitery, he alway did what he said he would do and then went 100% over that. I just got word on Joe's passing,all in Daytona Beach , are very sad to hear of your loss. We will think of Joe alwayse but most of all during Speedweeks at The Brickyard where he loved eat and meet friends.
