Julie Ewert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 6, 2023.
Julie Ann Ewert, 44, of Hurst, Texas, passed away on October 2, 2023. She was born August 15, 1979, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Bill and Nancy Ramage.

After living in both Corpus Christi and Wichita Falls as a young child, Julie's family settled in Fort Worth in 1987. She loved art, fashion, and shopping, and jumped at the chance to put them all to work with a Fashion Merchandising degree from Wade College. She and her sister chose an apartment for its proximity to campus but got a big bonus when she met the love of her life, Michael Ewert, who also lived there. Six years later, they were married on October 15, 2005. Their boys, Jonathan and Ben, soon followed.

Julie was a mom and wife, first and foremost, and she loved doing and being a part of anything that reinforced those roles. This included surrounding them with family, friends, and a community she loved. She was a dependable volunteer at the church and schools for more than 10 years, with titles to include: music director, room mom, PTA volunteer (President, Council Delegate, Yearbook Chair, Communication Chair, and VP Hospitality), Sunday School teacher, Stephen Minister, and photographer (unofficial, but you could count on her to be there with her camera). A lifelong passion for music also led her to teach piano lessons in their home.

If there was laughter, you could be sure Julie was at or near the source. She could (and would) sing without warning (from The Beatles to Beastie Boys) and dance like no one was watching. She was a light in any room and knew how to love people - through laughter, gifts, and/or Mexican food. This was evidenced by the long list of those she called 'friend.'

Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Nancy Ramage; paternal grandparents, Dale and Leola Ramage; maternal grandparents, Norman and Rosemary O'Brien; and father-in-law, Theron James Ewert.

Julie is survived by her husband, Michael Ewert; sons Jonathan and Benjamin Ewert; sister Amy (Waylen) Day of Burleson, Texas; mother-in-law Pat Ewert of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law Anna Marie (Bryan) Ewert-Pittman of Rowlett, Texas; brother-in-law James (Debbie) Ewert of Ellicott City, Maryland; nieces Scarlet and Hazel Day; and nephews Will and Cason Day. Julie is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who loved and will miss her immensely.

A celebration of Julie's life will be held on October 11 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Hurst at 521 W Pipeline Rd, Hurst, TX 76053.

Julie and I grew up in church together at Southcliff Baptist. We went on a mission trip together one summer in high school where we really bonded over teaching VBS, painting houses and sleeping on the floor of a church´s recreation room. I´m thankful we reconnected in recent years and she will be truly missed. My prayers go out to her family.

Like so many of Julie's friends, our friendship began through serving on the PTA and being involved in our boys' grade. We had a close bond with Julie as did our sons to Ben. Getting to navigate motherhood and daily life with humor and authenticity is something we will always cherish.

Our daughter had hearing loss due to a bad ear infection and abrasion or lack of ear drum to follow. Julie called me up and walked me through her sons journey and gave me so much information and tools as we navigate and continue to navigate it all. I will never forget that. I have so many memories of her but this one sticks out so well because it embodied so much of Julie as a mom and friend. This all happened well into the pandemic when we had not seen ad much of each other. But that did not stop her from connecting and living life and helping others!

The first time I met Julie was a few months after we moved a few house down. I had seen a glimmer of a child once or twice and hoped that it was a child the same age as ours. One Saturday we were having a garage sale and a lady with a young son walked up to say hello. I though she was just a shopper, but no..... these two would become mine AND my sons best friends. Jonathan and Gage were as inseparable as Julie and I from then on. "Thick as thieves". I am forever grateful for her and the memories we shared.
