I had a dream about Winnie Stone a few weeks ago, after not seeing her for years. She was an outstanding person, a wonderful mother, and maybe the best cook of southern cuisine I´ve ever had the pleasure to dine with. My deepest condolences to the Stones, Healys, and especially Allie. The world needs more people like Winnie in it.

A gentle and positive soul, Aunt Winnie´s calm demeanor and quick wit will be missed. My first memory was a trip to NYC in the 70s where we stayed in "the" apartment with Winnie, Charlie and the boys. I remember feeling safe and comfortable, if not a bit overwhelmed. Much love from Mike, Jamelyn and Maxwell

Winnie taught me English at Hewitt from 1994 - 1997. Sh was an incredible teacher, always approachable and with a unique ability to listen and understand her students. I was not particularly keen on poetry but her lessons brought the subject to life, especially Sylvia Plath poetry that I remember to this day. Thank you for everything and your memory will aways stay with me....

I was one of those neighborhood kid friend to Sam and Allie, who raided Winnie´s kitchen on a regular basis, whether after school snacks or dinners after playing in Central Park or three course breakfasts on weekend sleepovers...she always asked me if I wanted more with a smile. Love you Winnie and thank you!

I came to Hewitt in the fall of 1996 after having been hired over the summer, and my great good luck was to have Winnie assigned to be my buddy, and she was superbly helpful and fun to be with in every way. She seemed delighted to have me as some extra work to do as the year began, and her warmth and sense of humor, her knowledge of everything Hewitt, her obvious deep love for her field, her devotion to her students, and her profound modesty in spite of all her powers made me feel as if she were a long-time friend I could count on. I learned that this is who Winnie was for anyone who needed her, a student, a colleague, a student´s parent, an administrator, the building staff, anyone. Her smile and calm voice and her ability to find things to laugh about in almost every challenge might seem almost impossible, but it was very real. Winnie carried and shared "Faith and Courage" in everything she did.

Winnie was a sweet kind soul. We served on the vestry and on the same soup kitchen team and she was always a pleasure. I will always remember our conversations, the laughter, her wit, her enjoyment of spicy food, her quiet smile and twinkling eyes and her steadfast faithfulness. You will be missed Winnie. Rest well.

I worked with Winnie at The Hewitt School. I remember seeing her in the faculty room diligently correcting papers and readying plans for the next day. She taught me to use sentence patterns when explaining how dependent and independent clauses work together. This approach made a lot of sense to students and me. Sending love to Winnie's family...

Winnie came to me for haircuts all the way from NY city which I deemed a great honor! She was a sweet endearing soul. We had the most stimulating conversations on every topic imaginable during her haircuts. She always insisted on paying what she paid in the city for her haircut knowing it supported me while I was attending Hollins . It was my lunch money at the time. She also supported my by purchasing a few pieces of my artwork and attended the art shows I was in. I considered her a dear friend. I will miss her so much as the world was a better place with her in it.
May God give comfort to all who loved her.

I will always remember Winnie for her kind, gentle spirit and voice to match. Whenever I was around her, I felt a sense of peace. Oh how wonderful to make people feel that way! I´m sure that many others would nod in agreement with this sentiment.
