Marlene and family,
My mom just told me the news of Katie's passing. I remember growing up next door and pretending Katie was my little sister. We played for hours on our bikes and kick the can in the neighborhood.
Good times that I cherish. I send my deepest sympathies to you all. May God be with you at this time and in the days ahead - Julie

Katie (kbear)..
The mother of my son, the first love of my life. The only real romantic love of my life. No greater love has come my way before or since. I don't expect that will ever happen. And although it has been 13 years since that part of our love turned back into friendship and co-parenting....I still remember those years of roses, love poems and snuggling up during the X files as my best. At least my favorite... I just remember it felt good to be in love.
I promise you this, I will try even harder the best father I can for our son Max.
love you, A.Gissin

I remember Katie's great smile, her endearing smart whit, her kind soul. I remember her whenever I see the blues brothers, laughing. May her spirit live on.

Dear Mrs. Musick and family,I didn't really know Katie outside of school. I was a grade under her and a transplant from Brookline. I had a lot of trouble adjusting when I first moved to U.S.C. and Katie was instrumental in making me feel comfortable and welcome. We rode the bus together and, although I was so nervous to talk to her, at first, I was soon able to make her smile and laugh, which always made my day. I was bullied a bit, and although I could handle myself (she called me "Rocky"), she stepped in and took care of a situation herself one time and sent the word out that I wasn't to be messed with. That was Katie and I've never forgotten our talks on the bus and in the halls. She was truly unique in her caring and comforting ways. I wish I could've reconnected with her after high school. She was one of the most mature and well-adjusted people I've known and she gave a troubled kid, that no teacher or administrator could get through to, plenty of good advice from time-to-time. That was powerful, considering we weren't even that close. That was Katie, but that's upbringing, too. I commend you on raising such a beautiful, talented, smart, funny and outgoingly caring young lady and woman. Please be well and be strong because that's what Katie was- Steve Gartland

It's difficult to find any words right now...my heart breaks for you, Kate...my heart is broken for your Mom, David, Nate and of course, Max.
I am thankful for the years that we spent attached at the hip -7th, 8th and 9th grade -very formidable years. I always loved being at the Musick's house. Kate and I would anxiously await the arrival of David and/or Nate and all of their friends to come home so that we could (hopefully) hang out with them. I always admired how close the family was. And funny. Every single one of them -starting with Mr. Musick. With Kate, I gained my first experience of the true meaning of a best friend. Our solid bond came at a time when we were figuring out life and relationships. And we had each other's backs. I've never ever forgotten about my friendship with Kate -even as the years have flown by.
Kate was a one-of-a-kind, that's for sure.
I've always held the Musicks in high regard in my heart and will continue to do so. All of my love to each of you...

I spent a lot of time at the Musick's house while in school - what an amazing, strong, talented and welcoming family they are. Katie little Musick was cool. She was smart and cute, and could handle her brothers and their friends, myself included, like only a little sister could. I have lots of love for this family, and will continue to have good thoughts for them.
