Kenneth Kovacevich Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 3 to Jul. 7, 2023.
Kenneth Kovacevich, 94, of Delano, CA passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023 in his home. He was born in Reedley, CA to Joseph and Lucy Kovacevich on June 29, 1928. He grew up working on the family farm and always envisioned himself as a farmer from a young age. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served for two years. When he came back home, he married Mary Ann Zaninovich in 1955, which he said was "the best part of my life". The couple settled in Delano, where Kenny found plenty of opportunity for farming table grapes and raising a family. Farming table grapes and persimmons was something Kenny was especially proud of; you could always find him driving in the vineyards admiring the fruit. He attributed everything he had to God and his greatest joy was his family. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was a memorable friend to all.

Kenny is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Marsha; parents, Joseph and Lucy; and brothers, Johnny and Tony. He is survived by his children Kenneth Kovacevich Jr. and wife Marianne, Carol Yingst and husband Michael, Mark Kovacevich and wife Abigail, and Ann Tartaglia and husband Anthony, his 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's in Reedley (1018 N. Frankwood Ave) on July 10, 2023 at 9:30 am with graveside service to follow at Reedley Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the ladies at Agape In-Home Care for their never-ending love and care for their father over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to: American Slavonic Social Club in Delano, CA (PO Box 91, Delano, CA 93216) and All Slavonic American Association (112 Green Oaks, Visalia, CA 93277).

Kenny was such a great guy. Nearly every time he traveled to Santa Barbara he would call and come to our house to visit with us. He always brought us beautiful fresh fruit from his farms. He encouraged us to visit Croatia, which we did. We had a fabulous time there and always thought of Kenny as we traveled to many islands, including Hvar, the land of our ancestors. I didn't realize that Kenny had passed, or we would have attended his service. He and Mary Anne had organized a number of memorable family reunions at the Slav Club in Delano. All were great memories.

I have very fond memories of your dad. my former husband, Delmar Bell and I would visit with him often before my husband´s premature death in 1994. We purchased persimmons every year from him and I still make persimmon cookies using your mom`s recipe. I am praying for you during this difficult time. He was such a kind and gentle soul. May he rest in heaven, Maridee Bell
