Klaus Albrecht Obituary

Dr. iur. Klaus L. Albrecht died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of 7 April 2015. He was the dearly loved wife of Christina, loving father of Nik, Max and Chris, and very proud grandfather of Lukas. His death marked the end of a joyful life punctuated by a successful and distinguished banking career with Deutsche Bank, an institution to which he was invaluable and fiercely loyal. While he was German by heritage, he had an unwavering passion for Australia from the moment he arrived in 1985, and was always proud to call it his home. As such , he was a deserving recipient of the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit in Germany, but also a member of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia and the Melbourne Club. Those who knew him most commonly described him as a great intellect and a true gentleman; unwaveringly meritocratic and exceptionally kind. He was equally comfortable sitting in a board meeting as he was chatting to the locals in a Darwin pub. His passing was unexpected, and he will be deeply missed by his family, but he left this life on the best of terms with those closest to him.

I knew Klaus in his capacity as representative for Deutsche Bank on the Australian Bankers Association. He had a charismatic quality combining intellect and courtesy with great warmth of character.
