Laurie Marie Mitchell
Laurie Marie Mitchell, 46, of Fairfield, CT, passed away September 5th, surrounded by loved ones, after a two-year battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Fairfield, she was born in Bridgeport, CT, on December 18, 1971, and relished her many years living on Fairfield Beach with her family. She graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Fairfield University. For more than a decade, Laurie worked at Landmark Financial Group, Southport, CT, in client and public relations.
As a young woman Laurie was a gifted and accomplished dancer. She began her dancing career at Bridgeport's Downtown Cabaret Theater, and studied with Luigi, the Father-of-Jazz, at Carnegie Hall. With great skill and inspiration, Laurie performed on many stages and toured the country in the musical production "Damn Yankees". Yoga and gardening provided peace and balance in her life. Laurie had a keen eye and sense of style, which she wove into her life through fashion and interior design. She loved to travel, especially on ski trips to Stowe, VT, with her husband, Lorne Mitchell, her son, Rhys Schaper, and Mr. Biggs, their loveable Tibetan mastiff. Laurie had many friends, and the unbreakable bond she shared with her mother and sisters sustained her in good times and bad.
In addition to her cherished son Rhys and husband Lorne, Laurie is survived by her devoted mother, Karen Anthony; her sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Keith Dalling; her sister, Corinne Vizzo-Ganim; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leslie and Daphne Mitchell; sister-in-law Heather Mitchell. "Auntie Laurie" will be sadly missed by her loving nieces and nephews as well as many adoring relatives. She is predeceased by her father, Louis Vizzo, and her beloved stepfather, Richard Anthony.
A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Thomas Church in Fairfield, Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. She will be buried in a private ceremony at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Laurie Marie Mitchell may be made to The Connecticut Challenge and Smilow Cancer Center.

Little Darlin'...My dear BEAUTIFUL little sister. I held you in my arms when you were born, I held your hand, I hugged you, and now I can't. What am I going to do without you? It's unbearable painthis sadness. I know you want us to be HAPPY, and not sad. We are all trying our best, but that's one tall order sister! Oh this bond with you is like no other. We shared so much!! A childhood with you and seeing your light shine so bright BEST gift ever. Your talent, skill, and performances are better than anything I've ever seen. Rhys is a beautiful reflection of you-most loving mother. We had each other's back at every turn. We laughed so hard, (I love your laugh-I hear it so vividly). Oh yes, we cried rivers, lifted each other up in our darkest days and shared our deepest secrets, grandest dreams and adventures. I was always so proud of you and so very proud to be your sister. You will always be my shining star. I've learned so much from you Laur Your incredible inner strength, will, and bravery. Your beauty, love, and kindness will be with me, in my heart and soul forever. I LOVE YOU Laur, Rest In Peace. xo,♥ Pic

To Karen, Rhys, and family.

We just learned of Laurie's passing and have no words to express the pain we feel for your family. Laurie was a bright light and we loved her so much.

It's difficult losing a family member and we will never understand why they had to leave us. Our prayer is that God will give you comfort, strength, and remind you always of how lucky you are to have had her. She was precious.

We haven't seen Laurie for a few years, but will always remember how very much she loved you, Rhys, and her family.

Love,
Mary Barbeau and Allie Wurzel
