Our father is also survived by several grandchildren who each have a special part of him, whether it is his smile, his thoughtfulness, his big heart, his love for hunting or being a hard worker. His life lines are George Louis Herrera II and his wife Alisha, Tabitha Angela Herrera, Pamela Michelle Herrera, D'Hannah Lucille Duran, D'Vaughn Nicole Duran and his two great granddaughters, Ariel Guadalupe Herrera and Asalynne Amberie Herrera. Louis graduated from Sidney Lanier before joining the U. S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War. While in the Army he was assigned with the Corp of Engineers. There he was trained to build special bridges for the Army tanks to travel across. He was proud to serve his country. Upon returning to his high school sweetheart, his Huera, who he went clear around the world for her, he went to work for The San Antonio Light Newspaper. Louis was a Hearst Corporation employee for 40 years, working in the Composing Room as a Printer. He was present through the merge of The Express taking over The Light. Though this was a difficult time during his career he was proud to have worked for The Light and walked away with many great friends and memories. Louis was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and deep-sea fishing. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus #4140 for over 30 years. Louis was also a Texas Peace Officer with the Bexar County Sheriff's Department and Constable Department Pct. 3. Law Enforcement was his passion and when his Alzheimer illness stepped in it was difficult for him to hang up his badge. He was a people person, would talk with anybody and willing to give you a helping hand. It did not matter whether he knew you for five minutes or five years, you had a friend for life. His wife called him Santa Clause because he was such a generous person, always giving gifts. Loving husband, my Daddy, Pop, Grandpa and Po Po has joined the Angels above us he will always be in our hearts and his memory will continue to be cherished whenever we look up at the heavenly skies.
