Lupe Vaca, age 90, passed away peacefully in his home on August 24, 2015 after a 3-year battle with lung cancer. He was born on November 2, 1924 in Hynes/Montana Ranch, CA to Jose Vargas Vaca and Julia Saragosa both from Guanajuato, Mexico. Lupe was a caring husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. He was well liked and respected for his kindness, integrity, and mettle. Lupe worked as a cement mason/finisher, and was a proud union member of Cement Mason's Union Local 500 (Santa Ana, CA) for 56 years. In his free time, he enjoyed barbecuing, camping, fishing, reading, traveling, and watching baseball. Lupe was a resident of Artesia, CA for 65 years in a home he and his wife built for themselves. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Magdalena "Maggie" (2011), and his infant son Jerry Allen (1953). Lupe is survived by his two children Carl S. Vaca and Kathy L. Santos (Vaca); his four grandchildren Emilia Marie, Carl Daniel, Diego Martín and Ryan Edward; his great-grandson Carl Daniel Jr.; and his sister Esther Vasquez. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lupe Vaca to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
