I cannot imagine the world without Marc Gervais in it. My wamrest memories of my days of Loyola are of classes and screenings and lots of laughs with Marc. I was proud to be his teaching assistant for 2 years. His enthusiasm for his work was infectious and influences me to this day. There will be some great film shows in heaven with Marc at the helm.May he find eternal peace and may God bless his memory.

Marc Gervais was one of my favourite professors - interesting, wry, incisive. He challenged us to think about film on many levels, and to appreciate it as an art form. He helped us develop critical faculties that continue to serve us well. We will miss his gentleness and sharp intelligence very much.

I graduated Communications because of Marc, and he wrote the letter of recomendation that got me into USC. He welcomed me back as a professor, and got me my first job as a scriptwriter. Marc married Jane and I, and baptised our two kids. His influence on all things right and good in my life has been unparalleled. That his passing can take so much away, yet his life leave so much behind, is a legacy singularly his. Till we meet again, Marc.

MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY. MARC MADE HIS SOLEMN COMMUNION AT ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH AT THE SAME TIME AS I DID. HE WAS FIRST IN LINE ON THE BOYS SIDE AND I WAS FIRST IN LINE ON THE GIRLS SIDE. WHEN I WAS STILL IN MONTREAL I SAW HIM SEVERAL TIMES AT LOYOLA CHAPEL. ISOBEL WORKMAN (ALSO FROM SHERBROOKE)

My condolences to Father Marc Gervais's family, his fellow Jesuits and many friends. Father Gervais was a kind and generous spirit, a gentleman, a scholar, and the world is a duller place without him. I learned so much from him and will not forget him.

I always enjoyed my conversations with Marc during my years as dean of Arts and Science. He was always willing to listen and, of course, give me advice. He was a humble man who never let his fame go to his head. May he rest in peace.

A wonderful teacher, a wonderful mentor, a wonderful friend. My son Marc is, I'm sure, only one of his many namesakes. My sister Penny, my wife Gail, who so enjoyed spending time with him, and Marc, Alex and Joe, all of whom he personally baptized, join me in sending our sincere condolences and warmest good wishes to Connie and Andre and all those closest to him. He will not be forgotten.

Marc had a zest and passion for life and a wonderful, warm and giving heart. I am deeply saddened by his passing, but keep with me fond memories of a great man.

Who can forget those memorable evenings watching those great Hitchcock movies and the film noir series in the wonderfully atmospheric F.C. Smith Auditorium.
Father Gervais would always start the evening off by getting up on stage to describe, in his quirky and humourous way, what we were about to see. Throwing in little tidbits of info about the actors or the director, and generally communicating to his students his passion and enthusiasm for the great classic films.
A great teacher and a great guy who will be greatly missed.
