Marcia Ann Mitchell

Marcia Ann Mitchell, 81, of Santa Monica, California, passed away on July 4, 2023.

Marcia was born Feb. 20, 1942 in Rensselaer, near Albany, NY. She grew up there and attended the local high school. After high school, she worked as a switch board operator and then as a flight attendant for TWA (Trans World Airlines).

She married Raymond Glowacki in 1963. They raised three sons (Richard, James, and Jeffrey). She began life with her family in Clinton, IA, and in 1970, they moved to Brisbane, Australia. She was a wonderfully imaginative mother - always for her boys.

She returned to Clinton, IA with her boys in 1971, and in the next year or so, the whole family later moved to Mankato, MN and then Winona, MN. While living in Winona, she worked for Winona Community Hospital and Watkins Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant while helping Ray run his tavern and his temperature control business. In 1982, she and Ray dissolved their marriage. She chose not to remarry.

In the late 1980s, she continued working as a CNA in Glendale, AZ and then in Santa Rosa, CA.

After ensuring her three sons finished their college educations, she lived in Minneapolis, MN and worked for Washburn-McReavy Funeral Homes. While living there, she helped care for her grand-daughter, Jamie, who she adored.

She eventually moved to the Los Angeles, CA area and lived there for her remaining years while doting on her grandsons, Jaxson & Gryffin.

Marcia was a life-long learner, always curious about the goings-on in her world and wanting to be engaged in it all. She truly cherished the friendships she made along the way and loved to make the paths of everyone she encountered a little less burdensome. She also deeply cared for her pets too. While she persevered in her final years through a long battle with cancer, she remained a generous spirit. To quote one of her favorite poems, she took a path less traveled in how she made a daily effort to be a small but profound positive difference in her world. She is dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her three sons - Richard, James, & Jeffrey; her two daughters-in-law - Sherida & Mary; her three beloved grandchildren - Jamie, Jaxson, & Gryffin; her sisters-in-law - Kwi-Pun, Jane & Susan; her nieces, Lee, Katherine, & Maria; and her nephews - Ken, Neil, David, Mike, Dan, Kevin, Gene & Jason.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Kenneth, her brother, Col. Ken Brown, her ex-husband Ray, and her grand-daughter Maggie Ann.

She gave of herself to make the world around her a better place, and she would want those who choose to honor her life to do the same.
