Marion Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 30 to Aug. 3, 2014.
Marion May (Manchester) Smith was born July 28, 1927 in Paola, Kansas. She lived most of her life in Carmichael, California, moving there in 1955 with husband Robert Ray Smith and children. She also lived in Spain, France, and Germany. Following the death of her husband of 62 years, Marion moved to Colorado to be near the support and love of family.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her youngest son, Curt Edward Smith.

Like many of her generation, her life was shaped as a child of the Great Depression. She grew up on a small farm with her mother, older sister and brother, having lost her father in a farming accident at the age of five. Life presented challenges, and Marion learned to meet them as opportunities head-on through faith. She was ever thankful for the blessings of life, and her early life seemed to plant in her the seeds of a cheerful disposition.

Marion jumped into life with a spirit of adventure, thrilled with the experience of living in Europe, traveling through all 50 states and most of Canada with Robert. Many of those travel experiences were shared with friends from their home church, Northminster Presbyterian in Sacramento.

She is survived by sons Carl Smith of Chesapeake, VA, his wife Susan and their children Corrie and Peter, and great-granddaughter Vivienne; and Paul Smith of Colorado Springs, his wife Ana, their son Wesley and his wife Karen.

Her life will be celebrated where she enjoyed the last part of her life on Thursday, July 31 at 2:00 PM at MacKenzie Place, 1605 Elm Creek View, Colorado Springs. Final interment will be in Lincoln, Nebraska at a later date.

Marion Smith was a great lady. Knew her at Northminster. My late Mother, Mary Lester thought she was a special friend.

Cook and I have very fond memories of having Sunday dinner with Marion and Bob, Carl and Curt in Carmichael, CA in the early 70's. I remember Marion's delicious Minestrone soup; a recipe I have to this day! Thank you Paul and Ana for having us over recently for another Sunday dinner with Marion. I always loved the stories of Spain and family get togethers. Marion was a special lady who loved life and others deeply. We were blessed to know her.

We send to you our deepest sympathy and love. Marion was a very special lady and we enjoyed getting to know both she and Bob at Northminster. We also enjoyed her company, phone calls, letters and cards after Bob passed. We have missed her since she moved. Helen and John Volk, Carmichael, CA.
