SCHAEFFER, MARY ELIZABETH "BETTY" Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Schaeffer, died at Maryville Nursing Home on Friday, October 7 at the age of 86. Betty was born in Lewistown, Montana on October 21, 1918 to the late Charles and Helen Woodworth. She graduated from Fergus County High School and attended St Catherine's College in St. Paul, Minnesota. There she met and married Wesley Allan Schaeffer on September 2, 1939. Betty and Al moved their growing family to Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1949 where she lived until 2003, when she moved into Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton, Oregon. A long time resident of Lake Oswego, Betty was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish and a member of the Altar Society and the Christ Child Society. She later became a member of Holy Rosary Parish in Portland. Betty made frequent trips to the Oregon coast where she enjoyed playing golf. She liked to play bridge and other card games and was often involved in various arts and crafts. Survivors include her loving children, Charles Allan of Wilsonville, OR; Nancy Jean Brink of Hillsboro, OR; Mark Adam of Portland, OR, William Paul of New York, NY, Mary Jo Corliss of Portland, OR; and 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her son Thomas Woodworth preceded Mary in death in 1979 and her husband of 61 years, Wesley Allan passed away in 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Parish on Wednesday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. preceded by the recitation of the rosary at 9:30 a.m. The Very Reverend Anthony Patalano O.P. will be the celebrant. There will be a short reception in the parish hall immediately after the funeral mass followed by burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Mary's family would like to thank the staff of Maryville Nursing Home and St. Vincent Hospice for their compassionate care. They would also like to express their appreciation for the support of her many friends during this difficult period. Remembrances may be sent to Maryville Nursing Home, 14645 SW Farmington Road, Beaverton, OR 97007 and to Thomas Aquinas College, 10,000 North Ojai Road, Santa Paula, CA 93060.
