Maurice "Mo" Hunt

On September 30, 2013, SK Maurice E. Hunt, husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and Knight of Columbus, peacefully went home to be with the Lord after a long illness. He was surrounded by many of his loving family and friends.

Maurice, known affectionately by his family, friends and the community as "Mo", or "Ice Man" was born on March 9, 1963 in Camp Springs, Maryland to Mary L. and Alex Hunt. He was fourth of five children in a family of four sons and one daughter. He attended public schools in Prince George's County, Maryland, graduating from Friendly High School, Ft. Washington, MD, in 1981. He matriculated in the fall of 1981 and graduated with honors from Alabama A & M University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Maurice chose a career of service by supporting the Federal Government, first as a civilian contractor, and later as a Federal civilian. Starting in the late 80's, he worked as a finance officer at Andrews Air Force Base, a job he thoroughly loved. He continued on that journey and worked as a contractor for the federal government, closing out his career with the Department of Navy at the Navy Yard in Washington DC as a program analyst. Maurice had a desire to be a "DJ". Not only was this a hobby, he also made that a career opportunity. It was at this time during one of his "DJ" jobs in 1993, he met his lovely future bride, Lady Kendra. In October of 2003, they were married.

Maurice enjoyed staying busy in any spare time he had. He enjoyed coaching girls youth basketball and soccer, singing, catering, cooking, and finding and smoking "fine cigars". He was very proud of his accomplishment to audition and earn first runner-up for the national TV show "Master Chef". Some of his favorite pastimes were to ski, golf and play cards – "Spades" with his friends and family. Maurice was very competitive and always "wanted to win".

Maurice joined the Order of the Knights of Columbus in 1999. He was drawn to the Order's dedication to charitable service which match his zeal to help those in need. He was very active at the Council, Assembly, Archdiocesan, and State levels, holding offices at each level of this Catholic Fraternity. Maurice was elected to serve as Grand Knight of St. Mary of the Assumption Council #9302 in 2010. He served as Formation Chairman in forming of a new assembly, Fr. John T. Dewan Assembly #3046, and was elected as its Charter Faithful Navigator. Maurice was extremely active at the Maryland State level, serving as District Deputy for District #15, and as a Chairman for State Programs. In the Archdiocese of Washington Fourth Degree District, Maurice continued his dedication to service as Assistant District Marshal, and a member of the 4th Degree Exemplification Team. He used his DJ skills to welcome and entertain the new Sir Knights and their Ladies at an "Evening of Karaoke." Maurice became a cornerstone of the event by allowing everyone to make complete fools of ourselves.

Maurice was a devoted and loyal father, brother, and friend. He was known to have had a big heart. Not only did he open his heart to family, but he opened himself to all those in need. He was known for his big smile and big hugs.

Maurice leaves to cherish his memories, his lovely wife Kendra, three beautiful daughters: Alexis, Bettie Jo, and Gabrielle "Gaby"; three brothers Kevin Hunt of Alexandria, Virginia, Rodney Hunt of McLean, Virginia; Steve Hunt (Meg) of Laurel, MD; one sister Tijuana Wattsen of Tucson, Arizona; 4 nieces and nephews Tyler, Paige, Jason ,and "Big Cousin" Bradley; Mother and Father-in-Laws Lisabeth & Frank Day; Michael Worrey, Sr.; grandmother-in- law, Millie Daniels; one brother in law Michael "Mike" Worrey (Jeanette ) their three children Michael "Mikey", Taylor, and Bradley "Brad"; a host of relatives and friends, especially his brother Knights of Columbus.
