I met Maury in 2013 in the food prep room at the New England Aquarium. He made me feel valued as he helped train me, and welcomed me into the NEAq community with warmth. I was fortunate to spend time with Maury and Trudy several times in Tucson, where we'd share meals, funny and harrowing stories about the White Mountains, our mutual love of John McPhee's nature writing, and discussions about the state of the world, politically and climatologically.
I am truly saddened to hear of Maury's passing, and to think I won't get to see his smiling face again.
Rest In Peace, dear Friend.

Maury was a dedicated and faithful volunteer for Good Shepherd Community Care for many years. As a patient care volunteer, her formed many therapeutic relationships with our patients, helping them to reconcile themselves with their mortality and in clarifying their legacy.
As an administrative volunteer, we relied heavily and Maury's mathematical brilliance.
As a Board Member, Maur consistently applied a deep understanding and commitment to our mission and a concern for the organization's fiscal health which he brought together with a rich, deep, and thoughtful ethic that provided guidance to me, our board members and other staff.
We missed him when he left our board to pursue a life of greater travel, but we are so glad that he was able to spend so many years with you, Trudi, traveling and enjoying his retirement.
Maury's was most certainly a life well lived. His legacy lives on here at Good Shepherd and in so many of the places and people he has influenced.

I knew Maury more than sixty years ago when we were fraternity brothers at Bradley University. But, I didn´t really know Maury until about ten years ago. It seems that for some time before then Maury and Trudy had been spending their winters in Tucson. When Maury discovered that I lived in Tucson he contacted me and we got together. Since then, Maury and Trudy and I and my wife Shari became good friends. We spent a great deal of time with one another. Maury was kind, thoughtful and generous with his time. He was very active and had many interests. For the past six months he and I met for breakfast every Wednesday morning and had interesting conversations while eating. Maury, I miss you my friend.

Maury never failed to brighten our days. Maury always had a warm smile ready for us whenever we saw him. He was a man of kindness and generosity, with a gentle sense of humor, always compassionate and attentive to the needs of others, and a fierce intelligence. We will miss stopping to chat with him as he walked Lulu on the roads of the Meadows. We will miss discussing the beauties of the desert with him at Saguaro National Park. We will miss sharing notes on the latest movies and sharing opinions on the latest political issues with him. Maury was a person who truly worked to make the world a better place. Thank you, Maury.

Things that matter for the earth and the larger human community mattered to Maury. With deep respect, gratitude, and affection for his life. A fond memory of Maury's kindness: during one long Minnesota winter, I received a surprise gift in the mail - a pair of ice cleats to prevent a fall. Prayers and comfort for Trudy, Maury's family and all who love him. Shalom! Katherine Kraft, OSB, Saint Benedict's Monastery, St. Joseph, MN

Knowing how much Maury loved the forests , wild flowers and wild life can't think of something more meaningful to leave as a legacy for him than planting these trees for him.
Much love to all of you .

Trudy,
Park Ranger Jeff Wallner shared the sad news of Maurice's passing with me. I was Maurice's volunteer supervisor at Saguaro National Park for many years. I so enjoyed those afternoons at the visitor center, chatting with him and sharing stories of our kids and grandkids. He was a gentle spirit and touched the lives of all of us who worked with him. He will be missed terribly.

Trudy & Family:
Maurice was such a pleasure to work with here at Saguaro National Park. As the uniformed staffer at the visitor center desk I got to know his commitment to our wildlands, his easy way with visitors, and his wry wit. We shared many interests -- I too have hiked extensively in both the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Saguaro National Park -- and similar outlook on (and amusement about) American society. I said farewell to Maury on the last day of his volunteer season here at Saguaro and made clear that we looked forward to his return next fall. I am so sorry that will not be the case, but he will be remembered warmly by everyone on the staff at the Saguaro East visitor center. Thank you for sharing his time with us.

Dear Trudy,
It is so difficult for me to reach an adequate expression of the enormous sadness I felt, and will always feel, when I learned the unbelievable, and tragic news about Maury, from his brother, Mike.
From our earliest days together, when we first met in kindergarten, and throughout the many crossroads of our lives, and of our lasting friendship across the years, Maury and I shared so much quality time, and pleasure together in our respective lives.
To know that I will not be able to meet him again for the periodic breakfasts we have shared in recent years, pains my heart, because there is still so much that I wanted to tell him about the sincerity of our friendship at this time, and throughout in our lives. I was so much looking forward to reaching out to him, following your return from Tucson, to arrange a meeting, but now it will not be...but most importantly, the memories I have, will remain vivid, and so strong.
Much of this sadness about Maury, is also shared with me, by my wife, Beth, with her knowing that he was, for so long, such an important part of our lives.
Maury....you will always be with us!
To all the members of Maury's Family, how fortunate you are to have had a brother, father, and Grandfather, that he was, and will always be!

Dear Trudy: It is with great sadness that I heard of Maury's passing and with great joy that I shared ushering with him (and you) at Arizona Friends of Chamber Music. He is already missed deeply and "Door 4 at Leo Rich Theatre" will always bear Maury's imprimatur. My deepest condolences to you and his family.
