He was a graduate of Jim Ned High School, Tuscola, and Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation Mitchell started his successful career in the oil and gas industry. He made Midland, Texas his home. At the time of his death, Mitchell was an independent Frac Consultant with 3R Petroleum Consultants. Previously, he was employed by Earthstone Energy. During Mitchell's career he made an impression on so many people in West Texas, many becoming his close personal friends.

Mitchell was intelligent, funny, loyal, kind, and lived his life to the fullest. He cherished his friendships whether they were new or lifelong. He loved music, dancing, traveling, hunting, going to concerts and comedy shows with his friends. Mitchell was proud to be from his small town of Tuscola, proud to be a graduate of Texas Tech, proud of his work and proud to be a Hicks. Mitchell loved his family with his whole heart and loved his people without limits.
