Monica was my father's cousin and was very much part of our lives despite the fact that she lived on the other side of the world. She and my father William Dee were always close and he was very fond of her. They had known each other as children spending time together on their grandfather's farm in Worcestershire, England. After WW2 Monica trained as a pharmacist and then migrated to New Zealand. She and my father remained in regular touch through letters and then via long phone calls until my father died in 2004.

After Mum and Dad died she kept in touch with my sister and I through emails and Christmas cards. I visited her in January 2011 and she took me out to lunch and to see her new home that she had only recently moved into. She told me about her life, showed me photographs of the family and talked in particular about her grandfather ( my great grandfather). She struck me as a person of immense integrity, wisdom and kindness and I wished that I could have known her for longer. It was also clear to me why my father retained such a fondness for her throughout his life.

Our sincere sympathies to all Monica's family. She visited my family home in Dunsandel often and while I was at boarding school in Chch I called on her at work in Iggo's Chemists in Cashel st. Monica' s grandmother was my grandfather's ( John Walker's) sister. Last year Malcom and Diane Sherrard brought Monica to visit in Rangiora. It was a lovely reunion. Robin and Trish Watson

My Father was Monica's cousin. We had kept in touch by telephone and by cards at Christmas
In 2013 and again in 2016 we were able to visit New Zealand and spend time with our family including Monica
She was the most lovely person. Funny, intelligent and great to be with.
We spent time in her house and went to see her old house and had lunch in her favourite restaurant down by the sea.
We had hoped that we might have helped her celebrate her hundredth birthday but it was not to be.
We are consoled in the knowledge that we were able to spend this time with her and to experience her warmth and company for just a few days. But those days will last a lifetime
We have attached a photo which we will treasure always.
In loving memory

Deeply saddened re Aunty Monica's passing. She was a real treasure and a wonderful Godmother to me. I will always value our chats about our Haley family heritage. She loved hearing about my family activities. She will be sorely missed.
Sympathies to extended family
