Morgan Wilcock

Morgan Elizabeth Wilcock passed away on Friday, October 13th, 2023, in Aberdeen, New Jersey. She was 29.

Morgan was born at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota, and grew up in Southwest Minneapolis. She discovered a love of filmmaking as a student at Southwest High School, where she was a straight-A student and the pitcher for her school's softball team. She was a smooth saxophone player and comedic playwright, a quiet leader who could motivate and focus a team around her. Her film "This Gay and Age" won a national contest for PBS's 2012 POV Online Film Festival series.

Morgan pursued her passion for film at Columbia University, where she majored in Film Studies. She joined her older sister in New York City, a place the pair had visited yearly since childhood to visit family and see Broadway shows.

In college and beyond, Morgan was a prolific writer, authoring screenplays, novels, essays, and short stories. She directed and produced "Dark Lady Blues" and other films as well, finding friendships with like-minded artists as she honed her craft and found her voice.

Constantly learning, Morgan pursued a pre-medicine track in her later 20s in the hopes of becoming a doctor who could advocate for the health of her patients within a medical system that had often failed her personally. She continued to write.

Kind, attentive, witty, and funny, Morgan had an artist's eye for seeing the absurd, painful, and beautiful parts of life. Her observations fill her creative works and gave her a stoic and wise presence.

Morgan is survived by her mother and father, Ellen and Scott Wilcock; her sister, Alexis Wilcock; her grandfather, Keith Wilcock; uncles, aunts, beloved friends, two dogs, and two cats.

A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Cemetery Memorial Chapel in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday, November 11th at 12:30pm with a reception nearby to follow. All are welcome. A small gathering for friends in New York City will be held at a later date.
