Nancy Lynn Holmes

Nancy Lynn Holmes, nee Baumann, 80, born November 7, 1941 in Evanston Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022. Family was by her side.

Nancy's parents, Max Baumann and Sarah Slater, moved their family to the San Gabriel Valley at the end of World War II. Nancy later attended Whittier High School and studied history at UC Berkeley. In 1988 she obtained her Masters in Public Administration at Cal State Fullerton..

She married Carl C Holmes in 1963 while living in the Bay Area. She later remarried Phillip Gianos in 1989 in Fullerton.

She raised her family in Oakland, Placentia, Fullerton, Irvine, Villa Park and Dana Point. She volunteered everywhere. She was part of her church PEO, school PTA, CSUF Patrons of the Library and local soup kitchens near Fullerton.

Nancy had a bright heart and worked tirelessly for the underserved in the County of Orange as a social worker and later as an administrator. She dedicated more than 30 years to communities in need. Nancy touched so many deserving adults and children with her smile and her love for life.

?Nana Nan?(our favorite nickname for her) was passionate about so many things in her life. She loved celebrations, especially birthdays and Christmas. She reveled in hosting family get-togethers in the lava lounge on Highland Avenue in Fullerton. Her hosting traditions always included holiday favorites like ortega specials, artichoke dip and snickerdoodles. Nancy also loved to dance as a child and was a Whittier High School songleader. Always interested in different cultures and countries, she traveled extensively with family and friends throughout the US, Europe and Mexico. Her Iceland visit ranks as a bucket list experience since her great grandfather immigrated to Wisconsin from the island nation in 1870. Most recently mom relished time with local friends at her book club.

Nancy is survived by her husband Phillip, children Jason (Wendolyn Holmes, Kimberly Holmes) Evan (Amy Holmes) and Chris (Teresa Gianos), granddaughters Alexandra, Elizabeth, Clara, Jacqueline, Juliette and Emma and sister Betsy Lipps.

She was an amazing, beautiful, loved woman and she will be missed. A celebration of life will be held at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church of Fullerton at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 6.
