Neil Ross Obituary

Neil T. Ross, 60
KENNEBUNKPORT -- Neil T. Ross, 60, passed away peacefully at his residence on Turbats Creek Road in Kennebunkport with his loving wife Vickie and family members at his side.
Neil was born on Aug. 5, 1947, in Damariscotta, to Marcia (Angell) and Theodore B. Ross. Neil was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Sergeant where he received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. After serving in the United States Air Force, Neil attended the University of Maine at Orono and graduated with a BA in Agricultural and Resource Economics in 1972.
Following the war he began his banking career with the Farm Credit Service in 1974, in 1977 he joined the Bath Savings Institution and in 1985 he became employed with Kennebunk Savings Bank where he held several positions, most recently as the Facilities Manager for the bank. Neil's meticulous nature and dedication to others allowed him to achieve his personal goal of making his environment better than he found it. He received the Cultural Leadership award in 2002.
Next to serving God, Neil's greatest pleasure and priority was his family. Whenever worshiping God, enjoying family, and boating on the ocean could be done at the same time, Neil was happiest. Many family vacations were spent sailing in Muscongus and Penobscot Bays.
Neil was an instructor for over 10 years in the United States Power Squadron Boating Safety Course and received the USPS Life Saving Award in 1999. He also enjoyed his dream-job on weekends, serving as Captain of Kylie's Chance, a scenic lobster boat cruise out of the Kennebunk River, with Vickie as his mate.
Neil is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Vickie (Tucker) Ross of Kennebunkport; his two sons, Nathan Ross of New Haven, Conn., and Mark Ross of Kennebunkport; as well as his mother, Marcia Ross of Alna; and sister, Karen Card of West Bath.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A celebration of Neil's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, at New Life Christian Church, 551 Alfred Rd., Biddeford, with the Rev. Jeffery Tarbox and the Rev.. John Welsh officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel. www.bibberfuneral.com.

Vickie,

I was so saddened when I heard of Neil's passing, especially for you, knowing the deep love that the two of you shared for so many years, but at the same time feeling happy for Neil as he is standing with the Lord watching over his family.

Please know that you (and your sons) are in our prayers!

Love,

Vickie: Tiffany and I want you to know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Tiffany enjoyed working with Neil during her time at KSB and I have fond memories of him at the bank, the Home Show and on the boat working for Dwight. His time on the water appeared to be his favorite place in the summer. Please know that God is watching over all of you and He is holding Neil in the palm of His hand.

Dear Vickie,
We were so terribly saddened to hear of Neil's illness and passing. Both of us are holding you in our prayers and hope that you find solace and strength in the everlasting arms of our Lord.

Aside from knowing Neil at Christ Church in years past, we also enjoyed and respected him immensely as our "instructor" in the Power Squadron course. A terrific guy!

Neil was a unique and talented individual who had a real focus on the important things in life. My family was a partner owner(with the Ross family) in a sailboat and I, personnally gained much from Neil and his knowledge of all things nautical. We were both bankers and shared much throughout our careers. I will always cherish and value these memories. The Finnegan family; Mike, June, Liz, MJ and Ali extend our respects to Vicky, Nathan and Mark and please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this moment.
