BERNARD, Noel Michael - Waqmatcook First Nation, age 61 years old. He passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 24, 2019. He was born in Inverness on September 18, 1957, a son of the late Pte. Andrew and Mary Noella (Googoo) Bernard.

Noel was a role model and mentor for many, an inspiration for the youth. He had compassion, words of encouragements and trust. Noel Mike enjoyed playing horseshoes, ice fishing, and darts. He had a passion for sports. He took part in baseball and was a hockey goalie in his younger years. He also had variety of job occupations in his lifetime; Noel worked for Parks Canada in Cheticamp, a former RCMP officer for Baddeck RCMP Detachment, Lobster Fisherman, was a proud owner of the previous Kwikway Store and served his community as a Wagmatcook Band Councillor for a number of years. He will be forever missed by many that loved him.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Mary Louise Bernard, Wagmatcook, his daughters, Ashley and Michelle (Kenneth) Bernard both from Wagmatcook, His grandchildren Karmalyn, Braven, and River. His sisters Elizabeth Toney, We'koqma'q; Sarah "Sally" Cope, Truro; Annabelle (Bellin) Nicholas, Harriet Nicholas, Mary Josephine (John) Googoo, and Lucille Bernard all of We'koqma'q; brothers, Harvey (Brenda) Bernard, We'koqma'q; Alexander Bernard, and a number of his Godchildren. He was predeceased by his Son Jonathan Bernard; his brothers, Matthew, Jeffrey Bernard; sisters, Mary Helen Googoo, Alice Bernard and Bernice at infancy.

Visitation will take place at the Wagmatcook Elder's Centre, 57 Fishery Rd., Wagmatcook, NS starting Monday, January 28, 2019 at 4 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Eugene Morris officiating. A dinner and Salite to follow at Wagmatcook Cultural Centre. Burial to take place at the Queen of the World Cemetery.
