Norman Keith Patterson Jr. (Norm) of Lubbock passed from this life on Tuesday January 5, 2021, at the age of 52. He was born July 17, 1968, at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis New Mexico. His father was in the Air Force and they were stationed in Ellsworth Air Force Base South Dakota until 1977. In 1977 the family settled in Portales New Mexico. Norm graduated from PHS in 1987. And he attended ENMU.
During his school years in Portales, at the age of 13 he met the young girl that would be his wife. On August 31, 1991, Norman and Brenda started their married life together. They made their home in Noblesville Indiana for a few years, then returned closer to family when their first son Hunter was born in March of 1996. From then on they have lived in Lubbock. They went on to have 2 more sons, Austin and Tristan. His family was the most important thing to him. He dearly loved his wife of almost 30 years. Anyone that knew them would say "you can't say Brenda without also saying Norman". They were inseparable. They were meant to be. Norman and Brenda suffered a tragic loss on February 6, 2016. Their son Hunter Ryan was involved in a car accident. This tragic event just made them that much closer and more committed to each other.
Norm loved his music. It calmed him. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of his spare time was spent with his wife and boys at home. This is the place he cherished the most.
While in Indiana, Norm received his associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting. In 1998 he started working for Texas Tech University as the Coordinator of Irrigation Design. He then went on to work for BNSF Railway out of Sweetwater Texas in 2006. He loved being a conductor/engineer for the Railroad. While working for BNSF Norm was elected Vice Local Chairman in 2014. He was very involved in his union and was always there to help his fellow brothers.
If you were lucky enough for Norm to call you his friend you were his true friend for life. He would do anything for his family and friends. He grew deep friendships with those he met. He put everyone above himself and was often thinking of their wellbeing and sacrifice before his own. He had a loving, caring, humble heart that always put others first.
Those left behind to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Brenda and his sons, Austin and Tristan all of Lubbock; his parents, Norman and Irene Patterson, Sr, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; his brother, Eddie Patterson and wife Amanda and their children of Roswell New Mexico; his in-laws, Fernandes (Tony) and Marie Lovato of Portales, New Mexico; his sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Juan Dominguez and their children of Portales New Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his precious, Hunter Ryan; his maternal grandparents, Julia and Chris Ortega; his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Adeline Patterson.
The family has decided to withhold services for Norm to celebrate his life until July. Which will take place for his birthday. More information will follow at a later time.
The family asks that flowers wait to be sent until memorial services are held in July. At that time, honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Patterson, Steve Standifer, Robert Shade, Juan Dominguez, Steve Olguin, Mike Jandrew, and all of his brothers of the Railroad Brotherhood. Cremation has taken place.
