Olaf Peter Schmidt

Olaf Peter Schmidt, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on November 22, 2013. Olaf was born on September 4, 1940 to Erich H. and Elsbeth (Prenzlow) Schmidt in Berlin, Germany. He married Jeann F. Williams on June 1, 1965 in Austin, Texas. Olaf graduated from Lamar State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government and went on to earn his Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of Texas. During his working career, Olaf worked as Plant Manager for Hanson / Gifford Hill Company in Austin, Texas. He specialized in managing the building production of concrete pipes and pre-casts. Olaf retired on November 1, 2007 after 35 years of devoted service. He was a man that always loved fishing, the lakes, and being outdoors in his yard and swimming pool. He enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren who brought him great joy. Over the years, he was very fond of his many pets, including his surviving dog, Sadie. His home was his castle where reading and playing games such as chess and Solitaire brought him simple pleasure. Olaf will always be remembered for his sarcastic wit, his love of telling stories and as someone who embraced his family, friends and life. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elsbeth Gracedel; father, Erich Schmidt and sister, Claudia Schmidt Beirer. He is survived by his wife, Jeann Schmidt of Georgetown, Texas; son, Lance Schmidt and wife Laura of Round Rock, Texas; daughter, Christine Schmidt and husband John Holtz of Gainesville, Florida; granddaughters: Skylar and McKenzie Schmidt of Round Rock, Texas, Adeline and Ellery Schmidt of Gainesville, Florida; grandson, Emerson Schmidt of Gainesville, Florida; brother and sisters-in-law: John Logsdon and wife Sally of Austin, Texas and Laten Searight and wife Gaye of Pflugerville, Texas.
