Olaug Tobiassen

NASHUA - Olaug Tobiassen, 87, of Nashua, and formerly of Huntington, N.Y., died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at The Huntington at Nashua, a life-care community, after a period of declining health.Born April 6, 1926, in Haugesund, Norway, she was the daughter of the late Ole Gustav and Anna Theodora (Emberland) Økland. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Anker and Hans Jakob.Olaug was the wife of Harry Strai Tobiassen. They met and married in Brooklyn, N.Y., and recently celebrated 60 years of a wonderful life together on Long Island.While living in N.Y., Olaug was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Huntington, and the Rebekah Circle for many years. While living in N.H., she, with her husband, attended Grace Lutheran Church.Olaug worked in the insurance industry for several years before becoming an airline stewardess for SAS Airlines. Serving on flights to five continents, she was able to travel and see much of the world. After marriage, she was helpful in managing the office of her husband and partner's growing construction company, while also raising a family.She was an active volunteer at Burwood Home for the Blind, Huntington Community Thrift Shop and as a Brownie Scout leader. Olaug was dedicated to her family and enjoyed hosting gatherings of friends and family. She enjoyed traveling, skiing, knitting and eating chocolate.Besides her loving husband, survivors include her two daughters, Ann Marion Roach and her husband, Donald, of Brookfield, Wis., and Susan Lauer and her husband, Kurt, of Goffstown. She also has five grandchildren: Sarah Ann (Roach) Willey and her husband, Kevin, of Golden Valley, Minn.; Brian Donald Roach and his wife, Anna, of St. Paul, Minn.; Emily Strai Roach of Missoula, Mont.; Fritz Michael Lauer of Allston, Mass.; and Kristen Strai Lauer of Goffstown.

Services: Visiting hours will be held at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua, NH 03064 on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. A short service will be held at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Davis Funeral Home, immediately following visiting hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be held at Shirley Hill Cemetery, Goffstown, N.H., on Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m. A service of witness to the resurrection, in celebration of Olaug's life, will be held at Central Presbyterian Church, 240 Main St., Huntington, N.Y., on Saturday, April 26, at 2 p.m. All are invited to attend.
