Paul Gilliam Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 2, 2010.
Paul Andrew Gilliam, a native and life-long resident of Houston, Texas, passed away on Monday, the 1st of March 2010, at the age of 30.

Paul loved his years of baseball at St. Pius X High School, San Jacinto College, and then ultimately going semi-pro with Jack Schultea's Northwest Wildcats.

An avid fisherman, he loved nature. He was a caring husband, son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He was the sunlight in a dark room.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Crissy; his parents Ray and Randa Gilliam; his brother Peter Gilliam and his wife JoAnn, and their daughter Mary; his sister Charlotte Ray and her husband Jeff, and their children Jacob and Emma; grandfathers, Roger Gilliam and his wife Carroll, and Earl Bayne; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 4th of March, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where a vigil service and recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at seven o'clock.

A Mass of Christian Burial is to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 5th of March, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Msgr. Frank H. Rossi, S.T.L., is to serve as celebrant.

Honored to serve as Pall Bearers during the services are Peter Gilliam, Jeff Ray, Gary Majewski, Eric Michalak, Brandon Michalak and Michael Wilson.

The Rite of Committal will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Paul's name be directed to the charity of one's choice.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

One year today, Paul. The most wrenching of my life. But if negating this experience meant not having known you...I would do it over endlessly. Now, I sometimes fear that easing of the pain might somehow diminish memories of you; so I cling to both. And hope or maybe just know...that our love will meld it all into an enveloping glow of love and pain and acceptance...and this family will find comfort in realizing that you are with us. You are wonderful! Love you, Honey. Mom

Paul~
To this day it feels as if I've lost an arm or leg. Something so big is missing from our lives. There isn't a day that passes that we don't think of you or a memory from some point in our lives. To know that there will be no more memories crushes us so we hold tightly to the ones we have. There is so much more that could be said, but words cannot describe the loss of you and the hole that has been left in our hearts. Your loyalty, protection, mischief, laughter and most of all love is missed by all.

May 21, 2010

Paul, You helped me so much through out my life I know I wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for you. You are missed every day and I know your always lookin down on the people you love. I pray for your family and for your wife still till this day every day. You will never be forgotten and you will always be loved!

Dearest Paul,
Even as a little tyke, rubbing mashed potatoes into the carpet and running off laughing out loud at the reaction gained from me, you loved sharing yourself with others. Growing older, you became open, outgoing, compassionate & loving. As a gallant young man, you had the strength to approach anyone, openly and with zeal, beaming your way across those emotional guards we all put up, letting us know you are here and life is great. Your own bigger than life enthusiasm raised our expectations of our own selves. In the same room with you, life was brighter, more fun, interesting! As a man grown, you are one whom each person knowing you counts a good friend. You are that caliber of person who stands up for the needs of friends and family. Peter still says you are the best little brother ever. "You've got responsibilities, don't go there" can be heard from you as often as "I'm with you". A "Hi" to someone lonely is as important as a serious sharing of yourself to one whom you know has some real life issues. You step up when it comes to suffering. You care.
Actually, Paul, you love. Big bear hugs for your friends, guy or gal, whether they like it or not; understanding your dad's perpetually 2 year old dog whom you found to be just an overly sensitive baby & then he was your own; to simply holding Crissy's hand, anytime anywhere. You are full mettle, Paul.
Leaving for college, you left such a big empty place in this home that your sister cried for two weeks. So not having you here physically with us now is hard. Though you surely are spreading your own brand of joy amongst the good souls of heaven, we know you are also embracing us here beaming and instigating a moment or a flood of merriment. So we see, Paul, that if we can reach out to others as you have shown us, than we will see a better way; and you will continue making our lives happier.
I knew you were wonderful since always, Paul; you are still. I do so love you, honey. Mom
Live life passionately
Love unconditionally
Laugh out loud

Paul,

I believe God must have needed a good laugh in Heaven. There was no greater love to you than that of God and family. You would do anything for us, and your protection is still felt.
Your infectious laughter still echoes in the air around us, and we still see the glint of mischief in your eyes. We'll see you in heaven.

With Love,
Fom all of us
