BERGQUIST, Peter Leonard. Emeritus Professor Peter Leonard Bergquist DSc, ONZM, FRSNZ, passed away peacefully in Devonport on 26 December 2020 aged 86 after a short illness. Loved husband of Dame Patricia Rose Bergquist (deceased) and father of Claire (deceased), brother-in-law to Cath (deceased) and Phil, Norman (deceased) and Anna, loved brother of Ian and Carol, uncle of Piers and Thor, loved uncle of Ross, Nicky, Stacey, Tanya and Lara, great uncle to Jazmin, Eden, Lucy, Emma, Max, Bodi, Kyan, Kate, Kayda and Blake. Beloved partner of Lorraine and her children, Shaun, Fiona and Adrian and their children Stella, Aggie, Roisin, Rowan, Arthur and Henry. Formerly Assistant Vice Chancellor (Research) at Auckland University and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at Macquarie University, New South Wales, and Adjunct Professor at Waikato University. A world leader in his field of Molecular Genetics, and founding scientist of ZyGem Corporation. Greatly admired by his students and colleagues. A great mind finally stilled while still so productive, a loss to science and to us all. A funeral Service will be held on Wednesday 6 January at 10am at The North Harbour Chapel of Dil's Funeral Chapel, 185 Schnapper Rock Road, Albany. In lieu of flowers, donations to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ would be greatly appreciated.
