Peter Paul Fantacci Jr., 89, of Morgantown, passed away on Thursday (Oct. 25, 2007) at his home.He was born June 29, 1918, in Morgantown, a son of the late Peter and Victoria Vozar Fantacci.Peter was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Star City.He attended St. Francis grade and high schools. He left school at 16 to get a job as a mold boy at the Perfection Glass Company in Star City. He became a welder and worked and was an instructor at Cramps Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pa., during World War II. He returned to Morgantown after the war and worked in the construction industry until his retirement. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 152 and Mountaineer Golf Course.Peter was an active sportsman all his life. When he was younger he was in a boxing club and played softball and some semi-pro baseball. Later he became an avid and accomplished bowler. He took up golf and played several times weekly until this year. He shot his age at 85. He also spent many hours working crossword puzzles.He married his beloved Opal Casteel on Sept. 30, 1939.He is survived by his children, Barbara Zealy, Jane Cyphert and spouse Patrick, Roger Fantacci, George Fantacci and spouse Patricia; grandchildren: Ellen Baumann of Houston, Texas, Dean Guntner of Ocala, Fla., Charles Guntner and spouse Lynn of Leesburg, Va., Patrick A. and spouse Carrie of South Riding, Va., Erica Cyphert, Jeremy Cyphert, Luke Cyphert and spouse Leah, Emily Cyphert, Christina and Maria Fantacci, all of Morgantown; a sister, Mary Salzmann of Morgantown; a brother, Louis Fantacci and spouse Reta of Las Vegas, Nev.; great-grandchildren, Sean Baumann, Christopher, Rachel, Kendall, and Madison Guntner, Zachary and Luke Anthony Cyphert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Opal in August 2001; infant son, Peter Paul Fantacci III in January 1949; brothers, John, Joseph, Mike, George, Albert, Steve, Charles Mehalic and Andrew Fantacci; sisters, Mildred Tonchina, Margaret Hicks, Virginia and Victoria Fantacci at birth, Helen Fantacci and Virginia Mehalic White. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home, from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday. A scriptural wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, at the funeral home. His body will be moved to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and lie in repose from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Monday with Fr. John V. DiBacco as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
