Raymond Boylan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 3 to Nov. 5, 2015.
Ray passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family following a short illness.

He was born in Bridgewater Nova Scotia on July 14th, 1930, the middle child of Idella (nee Ramey) and Patrick Boylan.

Ray joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1950 at the age of 20 retiring after 35 years of service in 1985 as Chief Warrant Officer, the highest rank afforded to a non-commissioned officer in the Canadian military. In 1954 he met and married Florence Boylan (nee Nilson), the true love of his life for over 60 years.

He and Florence were always on the move living in many places in Canada and abroad with his career and in retirement. Several years ago they settled in the Saanich Peninsula to be close to family and gentle weather. He was deeply interested in world and local events, and was an avid reader, golfer and baseball player. As a younger man, he liked to dance, earning the name 'spaghetti legs' for his particular style

He was survived by his wife Florence and his daughters Debra Oliver of Guelph; Naomie Boylan of Toronto; Maureen Boylan of Victoria; sons-in-law Jeff Oliver of Buffalo, NY, Tim Buckley of Toronto, Ray Semadeni of Victoria; and brother and sister-in-law Jim and Vera Boylan of Toronto. He is predeceased by his elder brother and sister-in-law Earl and Lois Boylan

His grandchildren; Petra Lerch (nee Buckley) and husband Alexander Lerch, Ian Buckley, Caitlin Oliver, Hannah Buckley, Libby Oliver and Siobhan Semadeni were the beneficiaries of his sweet and loving disposition. He was their 'Papa in the sky'.

A Catholic mass will be held Saturday, November 7th at 1100 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 753 Burnside Road West, followed by a reception in the church hall.

The family are profoundly grateful for the tender, dignified, professional care provided by the wonderful staff at the Lodge at Broadmead. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials may be made to Broadmead Care 4579 Chatterton Way Victoria BC V8X 4Y7 or a charity of your choice.

Ray was a wonderful, caring person who mentored me during my young years. I owe him so much. May Ray's girls lives be filled with memories of his life and his love for you all.
