Another of my best friends has been called home, our thoughts go out to Selma and the family. I have known Dick and Selma through his love of the five string banjo and although a trader as sharp as a razor, Dick had never pushed me to buy one of his banjos. Dick and Selma always greeted me as a member of the family and I have enjoyed the pleasure of their hospitality and their company for many years. I especially remember Dick asking me to play him an especially difficult tune, which he picked up almost immediately and changed into his special style, saying" I knew it was an easy tune, a couple of notes had me stalled, that all" This was the man I knew and loved. Brotherly love is one of life's strongest ties and this what I shared with my adopted brother, Dick Best. Real men are not supposed to cry but my tears are for my loss, I have lost someone who meant the world to me and the world is a different place now I no longer have Dick to visit. I will visit Selma whenever I go to Tamworth and share my memories with her. A greater horseman and friend never graced the saddle than Dick Best. Life is change, not all changes I would choose.
