Richard Walsh Doran

Richard "Dick" Walsh Doran, 85, of St. Augustine, passed away on Feb. 22, 2017, after a brief illness. He was born on Jan. 23, 1932, to Richard Edward Doran and Jane Walsh Doran, of Niles, Ohio. He graduated from Niles McKinley High School, where he later taught English for several years and coached the very successful speech and debate teams. He graduated from Ohio University, and was a faithful "Bobcat." He served in the Army during the Korean War, and after returning received a master's degree from the University of Akron. He had a long and varied career in human resources management, and operated the May Cohen department stores in Jacksonville for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Fern Doran; son, Richard E. Doran (Nora), of Tallahassee; daughters, Suzanne Doran, of St. Augustine, and Tricia Doran, of Neptune Beach; grandsons, William Doran (Nathalie) and Brennan Doran (Lauren), of Raleigh, North Carolina; and sister, Marijane Lupi, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Mark Doran. Thank you to the Bailey Family Center for Caring, for their loving care.
There will be a memorial Mass at St. Anastasia Catholic Church at 9 a.m. on March 10.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Community Hospice Foundation.
