McARTHUR, Richard David

It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to our beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. Rick was born in Penticton, B.C. to parents Jim and Evelyn McArthur. He was predeceased by his father in 1996 and survived by his mother, twin brother James (Jeanette), sister Jen (Rod Farness), nephew Justin Farness, niece Katie Farness, nephew Luken McArthur as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. Rick's family moved to Prince George B.C. when he was very young. He grew up there and graduated from Kelly Road Secondary School in 1983. He studied briefly at C.N.C. before heading off to B.C.I.T. to pursue his studies in Chemical Sciences. He worked for several years at Skeena Cellulose prior to being diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a severe form of arthritis. Rick loved to be outdoors. In his younger days he would spend hours riding dirt bikes with his brother, he also enjoyed hiking, mountain biking and tennis but his greatest passion was for the game of golf. Rick suffered from severe pain due to the A.S. but he would still try to be out on the golf course as much as possible. In June of 2007, he was injured and left in a quadriplegic state. In spite of his situation Rick was always trying to make others laugh. He was a true friend to all. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you, to all of Rick's friends and caregivers at Brookside Lodge, who loved and appreciated his humor. Thank you as well to all the doctors, nurses and support staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital for your care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick's name to Crime Victim Services or to the Easter Seals House. A celebration of Rick's life will be held at the Fairmont located at 19528 Fraser Hwy, Langley, 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 22, 2012.
