Robert A. Cornish, 67 BATH -- Robert Cornish, 67, passed away in his home on Saturday, May 31, 2008. The previous evening he dined with his new granddaughter, Claire Krueckeberg. They ate his favorite meal, Lobster Newberg. He died of natural causes. He was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Brunswick, the son of Claire and Cumston Cornish. He graduated from Morse High School in 1959. Bob had 31 years of service to Bath Iron Works and retired as an Engineer II. He spent 29 years as a member of the Elks, in Bath, serving in various leadership roles. In 1991 he was named Elk of the Year. He enjoyed helping organize Elk events such as Casino Night, but most notable was his philanthropic spirit. He led fundraising efforts for the Tedford Homeless Shelter and supported various youth activities, including D.A.R.E., Boy Scouts, Christmas Toys for Children. He served as a Director of the Babine Scholarship Fund. Bob was an avid football fan. He also loved photography, especially taking pictures of family, friends, and various Elk events. He enjoyed socializing at the Elks club. He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Cornish of Plymouth, N.H., Tammy Pendleton of Kemp, Texas; and two grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, at Desmond E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. An Elks service will be given by the officers and members of the Elks at about 6:30. He will be buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath.
