WEST SPRINGFIELD - Robert W. Lacas, 62, of West Springfield, passed away peacefully at home on October 1, 2002. He was born in Springfield and was the son of the late Wilfred and Eva (Harvey) Lacas. He was a lifelong resident of West Springfield and graduated from West Springfield High School. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Katherine (Kuryn) Lacas. He was the loving father of Robert W. Lacas, Jr. and wife Tracy of Westfield. Daughters, Sandra (Lacas) Doucette and husband Joseph of West Springfield, and Wendy (Lacas) Crosier and husband Edward of Zephyrhills, Florida. The loving grandfather of Steffanie and Mitchell Crosier, Emily and Samuel Doucette, and Roseanna and Meghan Lacas; and also the loving uncle of several nieces and nephews. He leaves his brother, Wilfred J. Lacas and wife Donna of Chicopee; and sister, Eileen (Lacas) Schmidt and husband Ralph of West Springfield. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Walter Kuryn; and sister-in-law, Janet DeVoe of Wallingford, CT. He served four years in the US Navy and has been employed for the past 40 years for the Town of West Springfield, Engineering Department, as a foreman. He was a bowler with the Thursday Night League in West Springfield, an avid camper, and enjoyed traveling and sports. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 83 for many years. He was a communicant of St. Louis de France Church in West Springfield. Funeral service will be Friday at 8 a.m. from Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, followed by Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Louis de France Church. Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Calling hours are Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Western New England, Inc., 50 Maple St., PO Box 9058, Springfield, MA 01102-9058.
