Robert Lang Obituary
Born in Cambridge, a son of the late Delone C. and Marie (Vigneron) Lang, he lived most of his life in Dartmouth. Bob would list his greatest accomplishment as meeting and marrying the love of his life and his lifelong partner Kathy while at Dartmouth College. Together they got through Dartmouth Medical School and training at St. Elizabeth Hospital and the Lahey Clinic. They raised four children with a pride and joy that can only come from deep love. Their 44-year marriage and bond was envied and the love they shared was felt by all they met.
Bob worked for 34 years as a urologic surgeon in the community building relationships with thousands of patients and colleagues and garnering a legacy of competence, kindness, and compassion. Dr. Lang was a partner at New Bedford Urological Associates since 1984 and has been with Hawthorne Medical Associates for 10 years. For 16 years, Bob coached numerous Dartmouth athletic teams for his children and was a communicant and active member of St. Mary's Church. He belonged to the Country Club of New Bedford and the New Bedford Yacht Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, gardening, travel and especially spending time with his wife, children, and grandsons. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his family and friends.
His funeral mass will be Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10 am in St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Interment will follow in So. Dartmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 4-8 pm at the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME of DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 386 Broad St., Providence, RI 02907 or Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445 or www.dana-farber.org. Dearest Sully and Family: My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you, and to Bob. One of the smartest, funniest, most loyal and sincere people I knew at college. I think I laughed our entire freshman year at his pranks and jokes. We all knew him as Plant Man, because he grew on us...boy did he ever. I regret not staying in closer touch over the years, but I smile knowing he had such a positive, indelible affect on such a large and loving family and thousands of others throughout his life. I was shocked and saddened to hear that Dr. Lang had passed. He has been replacing a kidney stent in me, every 6 months, since he saved my life in October of 2016. When I thanked latter at his office, he said, don't thank him, it was a bunch of them making the right decisions. A very humble man and I will miss him. My sincere condolences to his family.

I was saddened when I read of Doctor Lang's passing. He was my urologist before I moved to NC. Not only was he a great doctor, he was kind and compassionate, and gave you the time you needed......a wonderful bedside manner. We were shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Lang's passing. My husband Raymond(who a year ago saw only his PCP annually and took no medication but now has 6 doctors/specialists and is on 11 medications daily) saw Dr. Lang only once. We were scheduled for a follow-up with him this week. Dr. Lang was kind, patient, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. He treated my husband and I like friends or family members, not like a time slot in his over-booked schedule. His passing is a loss-to his family, friends, patients, the medical community, and us.

I have known De Lang since the early 1980s when I began a nursing career at SLH and I have worked at his primary care doctors office for the past 20 years. He has always been the kindest ,most gracious man I have ever met. His love for his family is admirable. Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss and hope you know how much Bob was loved in the community. So very saddened by the loss of a truly good man & wonderful caring doctor. Ive been his patient for 32 years and he has always been wonderful. His smile & sense of humor could put any patient at ease and during my many hosital stays, i always looked forward to his " visits".

My condolences to the entire family. I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Lang at the surgery center. He always arrived to work with a smile on his face & ended his day with a "thank you". He was one of the most caring, hard working & respectable surgeons that I know. Not seeing him anymore on Mondays is going to be very difficult for us at the surgery center. To the Lang family, so devistated to learn of Dr. Lang's passing. When after moving back here from Florida, he woke me one morning in the hospital and said to me " and the reason you moved back here is why ?" My answer was " because I missed your smiling face " where he flashed that incrediable smile and laughed. If you were to look up the definition of the word doctor in the dictionary you should see his picture there ! Incredible dr. Husband father a giant of a man among men. Dear Kathy, I am praying for you and your family. I cannot imagine life without him. He was our Dr Lang we had the privilege of working with every Monday at the Hawthorn surgery center. He loved you so much. He treated me like a daughter. An encouraging word. A pat on the shoulder. He was one I so looked up too and admired greatly. He picked up my tab at little Moss and I got to meet you. Sit with you and your friends. You both were so warm and hospitable and made me feel like family. Known him since I was 6 years old ( I'm in my 40's)in the old Kempton St office he was the only Dr I wasn't scared of and I grown to know and love him like a distant uncle was always there when I needed him and when I was sick as soon as I saw his face I knew everything was going to be ok. There are absolutely no words I can say. When I was.told this morning, I was taken aback and in shock. Kathy and family....I am so very saddened about this tragedy.
