Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Rodriguez Family know that we recently sent a donation to Jordan's Initiative in the name of Robert M. Rodriguez US Marine Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Rodriguez Family,
I don't exactly remember the day I met Robert. But I do remember what we were doing. It was my first couple of months in 29 palms. And we were both on a working party. We were out in the middle of the desert picking up trash (who would have ever guessed they wanted to keep the training grounds clean). I just remember talking to him about home and family. He was a really nice guy. We must have spoken for hours. Robert and I were not in same unit, but we did bump into each other on base. Always saying the occasional hello and how is everyone doing.
I feel as if it was yesterday when I was in Japan on what was supposed to be a 6 month tour. (Due to the war, congress implemented stop-loss/stop-move) We ended up staying just under a year. I remember opening up the Stars & Stripes newspaper and reading about the casualties in the war. I remember seeing Robert's face and saying "No this must be a mis-print". I was in shock and denial. I was not very close to Robert, but it still hit a nerve in me that shook me to my very core. I was deeply hurt and sadden. I still stayed a bit in denial. Once we came back home to 29 palms, I remember going to the PX for something. On my way out, I don't even know why I did it I looked up. The very first face I saw out of the Many was Robert's face on a memorial wall they had. And I said, "Man he really did pass".
A few weeks later the base had a memorial service for the Marines and Sailors that had died in OIF/OEF. I remember going, feeling sadden by what was going on around me, not shedding a single tear, until I heard them say Robert's name. It was as if I lost control of my all emotions and let them all out there. I had never cried that hard before that sad day. I remember seeing Robert's family at the service. I believe it was his mother and another gentleman. I really wanted to go up and give my condolences. But there were so many Marines from Robert's unit there, that I want to intrude while they were speaking to her. At one point, I see the gentleman walking towards the parking lot. I go after him and explain to him what I just explained to everyone here. He told me that Robert was buried in New York and that his Family was dealing with his death as best they could. He gave me a phone number and an address where his family could be reached. I have since somehow mis-placed the address and phone, and would ask if someone from his family would please contact me. I would like to please know where Robert is buried at in New York so that I could go and visit him.
I have never forgotten Robert. And I know I never will. I think about Robert all the time. Even though I knew him briefly, and didn't know him well, he somehow found his way in my heart.
Respectfully,
Sgt. Marcos Elliott Diaz

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
If you need anything, please feel free to contact me!!!
