Robert "Bob" Simms, age 82, of Encinitas, CA, passed away on June 7, 2023. Born on September 30, 1940, in Los Angeles, CA, Bob was a man of many interests and talents. Growing up on a grape ranch in Selma, CA, he developed a passion for horticulture and had a remarkable ability to make things grow. His resourcefulness and creativity were evident from a young age, as he could design and create anything he needed.

Bob's educational journey included attending Franklin Elementary School in Selma, CA, and Selma Union High School. He furthered his education at the University of Redlands, where he obtained both a bachelor's and master's degree. He also pursued a master's degree at the United States International University.

After completing his education, Bob dedicated his career to making a difference in the lives of others. He worked as a Speech and Hearing Pathologist and later ventured into international school administration. In 1969, Bob and his wife, Linda, accepted positions at Karachi American School, where he served as a school administrator and Linda as a First-Grade teacher. After 4 years in Pakistan, they moved to Saudi Arabia to be principal of Abqaiq Copmmunity School and then Supervisor of Southern Area Personnel. Their overseas adventure lasted for 14 years before they returned to the USA.

Upon returning to California, he owned and operated the Mohawk gas station and car wash and Dynamite Shine shop and mobile carwash in Solana Beach. He also freelanced as a computer consultant and graphics designer.

Outside of his professional life, Bob had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed carpentry, metal sculpture, gardening, art, and was a creator of many mediums. He found solace in reading and had a deep appreciation for music.

Bob was a loving family man and cherished his time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Known for his leadership abilities and kindness, Bob was highly regarded by those who had the privilege of working with him.

In addition to his wife, Linda Nelson Simms, Bob is survived by his two sons, Michael and Paul (Beth), and his five grandchildren, Anna Simms of Coronado, Mary Simms and Brandley Simms of Encinitas, and Violet and Charlie Simms of New York. He is also survived by his stepbrother, Martin Adams (Sheryl) of Houston, TX.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Adams, his father, Jesse Willis Simms, his stepfather, Martin Adams, and his grandmother, Hanazant (Mable) Thompson.

A private ceremony will be held for Bob. In lieu of services, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the University of Redlands, Office of Advancement, 1200 East Colton Ave., 92373, Attn: Robert and Linda Nelson Simms Endowed Scholarship.

Bob's legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his career. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Bob and I were brothers from different mothers: We quickly bonded as "steps" and, until I Ieft CA for an Army post, we spilled a lot of beer, surfed, and managed to attend a bullfight in Tiajuana where I introduced Bob to my "bota bag". In spite of geographical distance, we remained in touch and with our wives, spent many happy hours laughing about shared experiences.
