Roger Quarles AUSTIN Jr.

Roger Quarles Austin, Jr., 85, of Atlantic Beach, passed away on August 24, 2018. Roger was predeceased by his wife of 58 years and high school sweetheart, Sally, and his infant daughter, Margaret Louise.

Roger was born on May 28, 1933 in Tampa, Florida and resided in Duval County since 1961. He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church of Atlantic Beach. After graduating from the University of Florida in 1955, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. A lifelong Gator, he returned to Gainesville many times to watch the Gators and was present in New Orleans with Sally when UF won their first National Championship.

Roger and Sally raised three children, Roger III (Buddy), Patti and Doug. A salesman by trade, he worked very hard and traveled many miles to provide a comfortable life for this family. Golf was his passion and Roger was a former member of University Country Club and Selva Marina Country Club. He passed his love for golf onto his sons but was not able to pass his superb golf skills on to those two hackers.

Roger is survived by his children, Roger III, Patti (Paul) Pafford, and Doug (Robin) and his precious puppy, Baby. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Kathryn and Eric Pafford, Michael, Taylor and Shannon Austin, and Cory and Samantha Brindley. He was looking forward to becoming a great grandfather to Owen Donnolly Austin who will arrive in a few weeks.

A celebration of Roger's life will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the BEACHES CHAPEL BY HARDAGE-GIDDENS, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, Roger requests a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
