Ruth Hall Bathe

Ruth Hall Bathe, 94, died on April 24, 2021, in Williamsburg, Va. She had recently celebrated her birthday, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in New York on April 16, 1927, Ruth was the daughter of Joseph Douglas Hall and Irene Sunderlin Hall. She attended New Jersey College for Women (now Douglass College) and received a B.S. from Columbia University School of Nursing in 1949. She lived in the Washington, DC, area for many years, and accompanied her husband, Orville, on many overseas postings during his career. In 1983, they moved to Etlan, Va., where she was a member of Madison Presbyterian Church and president of the Literacy Council of Madison County. She later lived at Chesterbrook Residences in Falls Church and Edgeworth Park at New Town in Williamsburg, Va.

Ruth was preceded in death by her son, David and husband, Orville H. Bathe. She is survived by her son, Peter, of Culpeper; daughter, Ellen Peters (Charlie) of Williamsburg; daughter-in-law, Beth Bathe of Lancaster, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Drew (Victoria) and Anna Bathe, and Dylan (Elizabeth) and Riley Timmer.

A memorial service will be held at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean, Va., at a later date. Funeral arrangements are with Bucktrout of Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Heifer International.
